Castel del Monte (XIII century) rises near Andria, in Bari province, and it is one of the federicians garrisons on the
ancient territory of Capitanata, the actual Puglia.
Few knows each other regarding his first building, while he
has been documenting the depth relationship that the castle
had in the period in which was restructured in the form
that we today know and was turned to privileged residence of the emperor Federico II°, the "Stupor Mundi".
Thanks to this relationship the mighty octagonal building,
that reassumes in oneself the architectural and ornamental
canons of the medieval Europe and "Outremer" - as custom of
all the crusaders fortitudes built in the Middle East -, it
is an unique example today and perfectly preserved for worth of the continuous interventions of the Italian State, that became from there owner in 1876, and he has risen to perpetual symbol of the mythology of Federico II°, also for the innumerable astronomic and symbologic implications that in the realization of Castel del Monte they have been considered.
