I just finished this map and its a must play. The beginning placement of the armies is clumsy at first because they are spread out all over the place. The group in the lower left corner needs to be moved over during a break in the attacks. If you try to move over during a attack they will be surrounded and pressed by the advancing enemy. If there were a few more building possiblities this would be a five.
This was a great game. This is a battle oriented map requiring some strategic troop movement. There are firethrowers mixed in with the enemy archers. When you advance they will light up the field and its all maximum fire damage on your advancing lines. I used a square defensive formation at the end and let them have it with the troops that are right by the castle. I used the armored knights as a strong reserve and they mowed down advancing columns of slaves during the battle.
I liked this map alot, but a I think more challenging and blended economic goals or events could make this a real 5.
Map Design: 4.5
The layout of the terrain makes this a a pretty much straight on battle with troops mixing up together and archers on both sides making the centerfield deadly. Luckily the infantry of the enemy are mercenary swordsmen for the most part. They cant take alot of arrows, and a set of grouped spearmen took out the rest. I didnt use one macemen during the whole battle. If the map had some more attacks from different signposts it would be a 5 here.
Not much to say but add more next time.
Thumbs way up for this challenging battle. I liked the action and no long build up time where nothing happens. You definately know when the enemy are attacking on this map!
