This is my first attempt at the creation of a siege map. I have played it out myself several times now and all seems good. The map has been designed with you being the attacker. Should you decide to play it out as the defender, chances are you will have little difficulty winning.
Make sure you follow the readme included in the file as well as the storyline for any small tips.
Have fun all.

Probably a challenge to take if you attack it head on, but that isn't the way to go about it ;)
First try win under 30% losses.
PLAYABILITY: Squarely in the middle of the Siege offerings. If the defense had guarded all attackable points of the Castle a little nmor evenly, this might get a higher score. As it is, the defensde has a soft spot, which makes winning easier than it should be.
BALANCE: Average, at best. The defense itself is set up unbalanced, which makes a thoughtful attack unbalanced as well.
CREATIVITY: PLEASE do not put tips in the in-game instructions! That potentially robs ME of the chance to be creative in my attack! Designers, if you feel you just HAVE to give your players tips, put them in the text file sdo they don't ruin the day for players who do not want tips! The Castle looks kewl and the map looks good. Had the story spent more time on the story instead of giving us unwanted hints (even for defense after we were told the map was for offense!) it might have reached 5 level.
Another bridge map... Bridges are rapidly losing their basis for creativity points, as it seems most of the maps have them.
MAP DESIGN: Good design. Lots of room for the attackers to maneuver. WOW! A designer who doesn't try to use the edge of the map to control the movement of his players. What a nice thing to see! Interesting aspects to the Castle sprinkled throught; however, due to the aforementioned soft spot in the defense, the eye candy served only as eye candy. It never was a factor in game play. Still, excellent presentation map-wise.
STORY/INSTRUCTIONS: Give us a STORY - not hints! It is one thing to tell us a map should be played on "HARD" or "EASY" or whatever - that is a true instruction. But this is not the proper area to give us ideas on HOW to attack or defend.
This is a good entry as the designer's first Siege Map. A few small tweaks can make it much stronger! |

I played this map on the hard setting as defender and won on my first attempt with 42% troop losses. It took me four tries as attacker to win on the hard setting and I lost 54% of my attacking force on my winning try. The scenario was extreemly playable as the author stated, as the attacker, and rather easy on defense, but since this was the authors aim no points were deducted, and since I found attacking this castle both fun and challenging I give a point to make it a 4. ..... I found the scenario balance to be average or below on defense, and above average on offense, so it balances out in my mind to a 3. .....As far as creativity goes the castle and surrounding structures were well done but a little close together in places and Im claustrophobic you know. The castle itself is rather complex and left me wondering at times what led to where, and somewhat bewildered, but the bewilderment part could be my fault so I gave creativity a 4. .....Map Design I give a 4 simply because it is well executed, nice on the eyes, and functional within the game. The castle while mildly confusing, is still nice to look at and somewhat unique. .....The story and instructions were presented in the form of a readme that was easy to understand and functional, wich I found both useful and well laid out so I give this catagory a 5. .....Summary: A well done first Siege, both fun and challenging when played as the author recommends. I played it on hard and had a good time and when its fun thats usually a good sign. If you like a good challenge, particularly on the attacking side I recommend this map as a worthwile first siege. |
