A Delayed Feast

Author File Description
Jasper Tudor
File Details
Map Size: 200x200 (Small)
Difficulty: Normal
The year is 1100 AD, and you, sir Thomas Appleburn, return a knight and a rich man, from the first crusade.
To celebrate your homecoming, you have announced that you will hold a great feast for all your friends, even those who did not take the cross.
Unfortunately, even before you reach home, you hear news that sir Godfrey De Puce, a coward, who dared not take the cross, even though he was a noble, has made claim on the fief, thus confiscating you home!
Retake what’s yours and start producing bread and ale so that you can at least hold your feast, delayed or not.

The Author's notes:

This is small (160x160) eco-vasion with a minor cede at the beginning.
More experienced players may want to play this map at Hard or Very Hard.

Hope you enjoy it, Jasper Tudor

EDIT: Sorry to anyone who has downloaded the file (thankfully, only a few this far), there were some major flaws with the map whcih needed to be corrected. Here's the new version (you can no longer build wells or diary farms, you can no longer trade fruit and there is now a win-timer). Sorry.

PS. Thanks to Lollard whos map Primeval Forest Cede Scenario inspired me to finallt do a cede-scenario, although the cede itself in this map is there only for the story, and doesn't really take much place. DS.

lollard97367 Looking forward to playing and rating this today. Glad I could help on ideas for new maps.

Hmm...noticed that there is a well available to build, which is completely unecessary since the map doesn't feature any fires. Sorry about that, just ignore it.

Edit: Made a few changes to the map. There is no longer a well.

Playability: 5
Particularly addictive map, with a few short economic goals after cede. The cede isnt as hard as it intially appears, the enemy who occupy the saxon hall arent set on aggressive, and you can sneak up and take out their archers then slowly pick off the king. Then its a race to get the economic goals, until the last battle. I started over once. I wont give away the secret of the waterfalls, but I will say its critical that you search that area.

Balance: 3
Playing level: 5000
Troops Lost 3%: 9700
257 Bread extra: 1285
Total Score: 15985

The last invasion could be alot tougher. Spearmen are cut down easily by just a handful of elevated archers.

Creativity: 5
I appreciate the mention in the write up for the inspiration. I try to develop the new design tips I find online. Cede maps get big bonuses on creativity because each one is unique. Great to see new ideas!

Map Design: 4
Map doesnt have any big blocks of resources or sloppily raised ground. Authentic looking pastoral community, based around a small creek or stream. I took off because of the closeness of the signpost.

Story/Instructions: 4
Even though Jasper Tudor is trying to take the top reviewer spot from me and rate more total maps, I will rate this honestly and fairly. I try not to be baised when I look at a map, and I hope that others try to do the same. The write up is solid enough to get the Excellent (4). Pretty good for a person whos first language isnt English.

Additional Comments:
"Thumbs Down", give it a miss.

Captain Diablo Well, it seems everyone is getting back into cedes. I'll try my hand! Diablo style!

Thanks to Lollard for his review. More reviews are of course welcome.
The reason why I "steal" you top-reviewer stat is that I only recently got my own usee here, but I've been playing maps downloaded from SHH since this spring, so I have a lot to catch up on =P
Oh, and by the way Lollard, would you be interested in playtesting my map Aberystwyth Castle? I've started a thread for it in the Map Room.
