You have just arrived at Amemen Castle. It has been granted to you by the king. You are very pleased by the strength of the castle. It is known for the best armor in the kingdom and the men who fight on its walls are a force to be reckoned with. The Wolf has wanted this castle for some time now and is furious that you have been granted it. He has fallen out of favor with the king after his recent blunders in the last war. Having been exiled from the land he has quietly built his forces. He raids your supply lines and destroys your economy. Having a personal grudge against you after suceeding him as Major general he wants your head. You send spys deep into his kingdom and they come back with grim news. The Wolf has been preparing a huge army just for the destruction of Amemen Castle. Your spys also report he is marching this very day toward the castle. His army consists of his elite heavily armored troops. Even though the castle is strong it is seriously undermanned. Finally you petition the king for help. He agrees to send men to fortify the castle and prepare it for the Wolf. The men come the day before the Wolf arrives. They are new recruits. You are very displeased with the king. With these men you prepare for the Wolf. The armory is emptied and most of your soldiers are in full armor. Pitch is boiled and will come in handy. Just as the Wolf comes the men the king sent you charge the Wolf's army. You try to call them back but they dont listen. With the men that you have left you defend the castle. The battle for Amemen Castle has begun.
-Use pitch on heavily armored units first
-Watch out for ladders
-For a good challenge play on hard
-Slow game speed to 10 to learn your troops placements
Comments and constructive critism is appreciated
I liked playing this map. The attacking is much harder to win at. You need to quickly move up to the castle and get through the weak point in the wall. I'll just say that it is not the gate! I liked the dugouts and fortified bridges and cover. Using a stand and fight it out strategy on attacking didnt work, the crossbowmen in the bunkers are too entrenched and mow down armored troops. You need to sweep to the side.
Because I beat it on defend and attack I have to give this a 5 for meeting the goal of perfect balance, IMHO. Getting such a detailed map to work both ways takes planning.
A normal siege map with great outer battlefields. I believe this is a totally made up castle? If you get a real castle and try to reproduce it exactly, then I am more generous with what I give out on creativity.
Map Design: 4
I think starting in actual battle with the enemy at the signpost is not the best starting situation for a siege. You cannot avoid losing about 10-30% of your starting troops in the beginning. I think I would retreat everyone to the keep. Also you have to be quick with the oil. Still, Im giving this a 4 because it reminded me of the paintball battles I play with the obstacles.
The story needs something. Maybe more creative writing, its just a normal set up story You need to get the person drawn in to your story with greater use of descriptive words and images.
"Thumbs Up" for this map, and sorry about the delay on the rating after posting my score. I had to finish my new map, Battle of Haystack Rock - Coming Out Today. Check it out and rate it high!
