Placed in advantageous position between the Via Flaminia and the Valnerina valley, the construction, between 1362 and 1367, of the Rocca by the cardinal Egidio Albornoz, by the strategic plan of control of Umbria, Marche and Romagna under the papal power, it gave the possibility to free from the hostile Perugia to the city of Spoleto, finding again a temporary position of importance in the political panorama, lost to the times of the fall of the longobardic Ducato of Spoleto by the emperor Federico Barbarossa.
In the following years the State of the Church assured to Spoleto a solid government and many illustrious guests they passed for the Rocca: pope Niccolò V° sheltered in to escape to an epidemic of plague; pope Pio II° stopped during a diplomatic mission toward Mantova; Lucrezia Borgia was named Governatrice and Castellana of Spoleto.
From the beginning of 1800, the Rocca has been penitentiary of maximum safety: from around twenty years it is waiting to entertain a Historical Museum.
This map and castle have a good deal of potential, sadly though, some flaws in the castle defences make it far to easy as attacker.
I did not deduct any points for this problem because I feel the author may have meant this map to be played out as defender and you do have a little more work cut out for you playing from that angle.
The castle design was very nice and appears to be well defended. I did add points in both creativity and design for this effort even though the keep is an easy target from outside the castle walls.
The author presents the story to you in Italian, so if you wish to understand the map concept it is very important that you read the english translation provided on the downloads page. I have left this as average and do not think it would be fair to deduct points for a fine effort.
