It began with the forging of the Great Rings. Three were given to the Elves, immortal, wisest and faiest of all beings. Seven, to the Dwarf Lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And Nine, Nine rings were gifted to the race of Men, who above all else, desire power. For within these Rings was bound the strength and will to govern each Race. But they were, all of them, deceived, for another Ring was made. In the lands of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Sauron forged, in secret, a Master Ring, to control all others, and into this Ring, he poured his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate ALL life.
Ash nazg durbatuluk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatuluk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul*.
One Ring, to Rule Them All.
One by one, the free lands of Middle-Earth fell to the power of the Ring. But there were some, who resisted. A Last Alliance of Men, and Elves, marched against the armies of Mordor, and on the slopes of Mount Doom, the fought for the freedom of Middle-Earth........
Come with me to a land of long ago, of Elves, Goblins, Dragons, Wizards, Orcs, Men, Dwarves and Hobbits. A land where miracles were everday, and where magic and adventures were as common as Mcdonalds. Sounds great, doesn't it? But unfortunatly, there's always someone trying to ruin paradise. Quick recap, the evil Sauron is using his hordes of Orcs to systemmatically conquer the land of Middle-Earth. The Elves and Men get hacked off, team up, and, with their leaders Gil-Galad and Elendil, march against Sauron and his armies. They finally drive him back all the way to his fortress in the land of Mordor, and that's where you take over.
Objectives: Kill enemy Lord
This is my first LOTR map. I was looking and didn't see many battle's of the Last Alliance, so I made my own. There's some, but not a lot, of eye candy. This was made strictly as a battle, not a decoration. But you can check out Mount Doom to the north, and the Nazgul guarding the most-inner gate. Other than that, hope you like the map, and let me know, good or bad, what you think. On the updated version there's a readme file which has some cool little bonuses, so check it out.
*Black Speech, the official language of Mordor, an uncouth variant of the language of the Elves of Eregion: One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the Darkness bind them. |

Did you kill Sauron? That's how your supposed to win. If you did and it still doesn't let you win, just add a "Kill Enemy Lord" win condition with the map editor. |

Time to pay you back for a reveiw you gave me and to give you a lengthy one for once.
Playability: 4
Wel this was a rather fun map to play! A big battle with lots of murder and mayhem plus a castle siege!!!! The starting battle was fairly easy to win. Simply mass all of your troops together in big groups and send them all in at once to create a bit of havoc around the place. To take down the castle I employed similar style tactics. The entire army of my swordsman was gathered together and marched on the gate, procedding to bring it to the ground. They would then flood into the outer walls, some of them killing the archers in the towers while the rest of the army attacked the gate of the inner bailey, putting an end to the Nine, the Nazgul. While the enemy archers were concentrating their fire upon my melee units, I got mine to fire at them, putting a bit of a dent in their numbers. Then the gate was down! Nothing could stop the almighty horde of Elves and Men!! But a single flaming arrow and a rather large section covered in pitch. I sat at my screen, horrified and aghast as my glorious army disintigerated into ashes and cinders. Yet all was not lost. Some struggled to the end. They managed to make it to the Dark Lord, Master of the One Ring. Then they all fell but one, Isildur. He cut the ring from Saurons hand, ending his reign and the reign of darkness over the land!

Well, apart from that pitch trap( Curse them flames!) which only work the first time that you play the map, It is all very straightfoward and simple. I found it too easy. Won on Very Hard the first time albeit with 90% troop losses. To improve in this category of the map it is recommended that you reduce (just a bit) the amount of troops that you start play with, and also maybe put in some weaker troops, or swap some of your troops for siege weapons and engineers to brake down the gates? It was a bit of a pain to use swordsman to brake them down.

An original idea here, especially as I note that your Last Alliance map comes before the other ones did. Also I like the idea where you have 2 peasants ( Sam and Frodo right?) standing around what seems to be a representation of Mount Doom.
Map Design: 3
Urgh, this really brings down the score of the map. Sorry mate, but in my view, this doesnt quite cut the mustard, or to put it more plainly, the design of the map is somewhat ugly. The use of the hill tool is never a good idea, since the hills are too steep and look awful on the minimap. Also the way you set them out as mountains was'nt very realistic either. Go for a bit of variation in what you put down, instead of lots and lots of stones. You've got pebbles, rocks, stones, iron ore and dirt. Use them all spread throughout. Same goes for the terrain. It was meant to be really rugged and uneven, not a smooth grassland. The castle was not so bad, thumbs up for that. Apart from that, you need to improve somewhat.
Story/Instructions: 5
A good background story with some detailed information (Not that any of us need it, seeing how manu LOTR maps there are). Good Job on the work.
Additional Comments:
This is a good map, but it can be improved. Keep designing, and reviewing! |
