Your King has commissioned you to build an outpost in a rich region and build it into a source of wealth for the Kingdom. You are not alone.
Others have come into the valley with the same initiative. They have all arrived before you. This leaves only a small hill behind a marsh and small lake available to you to begin your task.
As there is only one way in or out it is defendable, but it will also force you to pass the gauntlet in order to attack.
The Arabians have taken the highest ground and the Europeans have taken the plateaus and valley. They have formed an uneasy alliance against you for the resources your position holds.
The men who will follow you and the future of this settlement have only your skill to keep them alive.
Your King has promised you that should you conquer and pay a tribute of one million gold pieces he will grant you this land as your own
Title, honor and glory…or death…awaits you.

Playability: 4
This is a wonderfully addictive map giving you the option to play with up to 8 AI lords. The skirmish mode by default allows tailoring to suit your needs, preferred gameplay style and opens up many other options, but playability scores high here, largely based on the author's notes and guidance, which suggests one particular method of approach. Designing a map with up to eight players at the same time can go horribly wrong, but I thoroughly enjoyed playing this skirmish map on a number of different occasions, varying styles and approaches each time.
Balance: 5
Marked as unbalanced, with some sites more advantageous than others. Resources are plenty, allowing huge troop numbers and the map is clearly designed for all-out warfare and massive resource gathering. The difficulty rating here is based on the author's preferred method of gameplay, taken from the notes within the zip file. With your site relatively easy to defend, the sheer number of units that you face is a challenge of epic proportions. Tough to play, and a long game awaits the downloader!
Creativity: 4
I have always found it problematic to rate creativity in a skirmish map. However, setting aside prejudices, this big, bold landscape is perfectly suited to those of us who love maps clearly designed with the odds against you. There is a feeling that the map isn't just another run-of-the-mill skirmish offering, a good attempt at a story and theme and, not forgetting the plateau-laced landscape, a pleasant change from flat and uninteresting surroundings.
Map Design: 4
Generally well made, as above the plateaus add a great deal to the scenario as a whole. My personal choice is to avoid large swathes of iron and stone, but they serve a crucial purpose here is you intend to play 1 vs 7! The valley effect is quite good, the map looks a little functional but, when all said and done, the design is almost necessary to support the economies of eight castles.
Story/Instructions: 4
A good little story, well written. The score here reflects the simple effort made by the designer to provide some additional material to read by way of preferred location, method of gameplay and the little twist if you obtain an enormous amount of gold! Fantastic title for a scenario as well!
Additional Comments:
Recommended, especially if played as the author intended. Good work, Ciervo! |
