The golden sun that once glowed over the foothills of Rohan struggle to break through the darkened sky, the land once abundant in life now cringes at sight of its own people as though they leaked some hideous poison, some foul deed irreversible in its void. The stones and the rock faces harbour no moss or shrubs and the light that once warmed its cold surface, echoes still death on the faces of the people of Rohan. The trees that had grown at the waters edge many a king ago stand still and bent, their dead bark skins shield any love or warmth as they slowly perish in the cold grey light that filters through the thick clouds. The fog that lifts from the land carries the foul curses of lost souls; evil once again rises from the darkness of Mordor. Like a foul poison the dark lord’s will and influence slips unnoticed through the land taking advantage of lesser people, lesser men. The land that had been so still is again siring evils unknown, incomparable. With each and every passing day Rohan is beset by its own people and a new danger is beginning to mount on the city walls or Edoras and the Golden Hall of Theoden, king of Rohan. The Nomads of Eastfold gather under a new flag, yet it carries no white stallion or noble steed. Wildsmen grow closer with each passing day rallied under darkened war banners bearing the white hand, Mordor’s grip has tightened on this middle earth and the wizard Saruman has allied himself with the dark lord Sauron, forging the union of the two towers. The days now grow seemingly longer and the city towers are never without warrior, with each rising sun more villagers flee to the safety or Edoras’s walls, the light that was abundant has almost ceased and the clouds grow increasingly dark overhead. Theoden, our king had sent out scouts days earlier and yet our eyes have seen nothing, our ears heard nothing. The days are getting increasingly cold and the frost clings tighter to the shrubs underfoot. The flowers of white lace that once covered the tombs of our past lords have all but gone, and when you stand in their presence souls seem to cower in the shadows, afraid of what warmth the sun offers to us.

Playability: 5
It all works! I have played it one and a half times now... 1/2 because it died on me, this might be a one time only thing, but I thought you guys should know.
Balance: 5
I had no problem winning, (especially with all of my knights) so I might have given you guys a four, but it’s just such a great map. I couldn't lower the score, I love it!
Creativity: 5
There is no other! Like I said before… Finally, something different!
My only complaint was that once your gate was destroyed you weren’t allowed to buy another one… but I’m sure that just for balancing issues.
Map Design: 5
IT LOOKS GOOD!
Story/Instructions: 5
You have a story, I don’t complain about stories to much, so you get a 5.

GREAT MAP!

Ah, what the heck...I'll join the crowd =D
Playability: 5
Great fun to play, the invasions are well timed, and the dead time before the first invasion is not too long nor too short. The fighting is very nice, and my troops got invilved in some kind of guerilla war, trying to defend the many narrow streets and alleys.
Balance: 5
Great! Failed my first attempt (at Normal) but managed to beat it the second...couldn't be much better I think. A nice challenge, but a very beatable one.
Creativity: 5
Not another LotR map...That's what I always think when I read about or see a new LotR-map, but this was actually a totally new expereince for me. I didn't install the custom messages (I'm to lazy =P) so I might have missed some of the fun, but the very of fact that they are included, and of course that the map is full of creative custom towers and walls, makes this a clear 5.
Map Design: 5
To be honest, I didn't expect anything else than a clear 5 from you guys. And I sure wasn't dissapointed. I'm not usually in to cities, but lately, there has been a lot of nicely done towns. And there's actually a lot of natural beauty in this map as well.
Story/Instructions: 5
Although it's a LotR map, the story has clearly been worked on. It is short, but effective, and includes some nice pictures (although I don't think you've taken the pictures yourself =P).
Additional Comments:
Well...what can I say? I think the score given by me (and by two others this far) clearly resembles what I think of the map. Great work!

Playability and Balance: 9/10
I lumped these two together because each one was about a 4.5. The map was really fun, though I wasn't always engaged in activity. I posistioned my opening troops then waited, made a couple charges, and recruited in the downtime. I didn't have to do an incredible amount of work. The only threatening invasion was the last one because the previous two had breached the curtain wall allowing the third massive invasion access to the inner motte. Adding to the playability was the fact that I had to defend more than just the keep. The armoury, if defended, let the game be a lot easier because you could have more troops.
I lost the first time because there was a way for the enemy to get into my keep area that I hadn't seen, so while waiting for the enemy to bust down my gate, they were killing my Lord. I won the second time through, not making the same mistake. A little too easy, though I haven't yet tried on hard or very hard yet.
Creativity: 5
Very creative; has its own style. WarLord_Designs' work is recognizable at a glance. Many custom towers.
Map Design: 5
Edoras is an amazing looking map. The town looks amazing, as do the surroundings. The river divides the enemy and makes them attack on more than one front, upping the excitement. The map design gives you incentive to defend more than one thing, as aforementioned.
Story/Instructions: 5
Good story; gives an excuse to fight for Edoras. Intriguing with only a couple minor spelling and grammar errors. Well-written aside from those errors. Really sets the mood of the map.
Additional Comments:
Sorry to wreck your 5; it may not matter in the long run though. |

The map was EXTREMELY fun to play, and I've tried and tried but I just can't beat it, not even on easy, but then, I'm not such a good player anyway.
Balance: 5
This was perfect, just a little bit too hard for me.
Creativity: 5
WOW! This is probably the most creative and eye-catching rich maps on the whole Stronghold Heaven! Wow!
Map Design: 5
This is just amazing. There isn't ANY map that beats this. It just isn't. Congratulations guys!
Story/Instructions: 5
Well, you didn't actually make up the story yourself, but I wouldn't lower the score for anything.
Additional Comments:
One of the best maps I've ever seen! The custom sounds were just great, and everything else was perfect. Keep up the good work(s) guys! ;)

Very enjoyable to play and keeps you focused all the time, maybe some good or bad events could have been placed at the beginning of the map to fill up that small gap
I finished the scenario in 3 attempts on normal, first time i quit aftr 4 years or so becouse i didnt knew you couldnt grow wheat and therefore sold the 150 stocked...
the time between invasions is long enough to rebuild your walls if they are broken down and make your army somewhat bigger.
Only comment is the bit long gap between the 2nd and final invasion (about 4 years right)
maybe
Balance: 5
The first 2 invasions are quite easy and will maybe just bash up you wall and kill some workers but more is not harmed, becouse of this you will get many time to buold up a decent army ( at th 3rd invasion i had just over 100 knights (the 100 horses and some given at that start) and a huge row of 350 archers at my wall, it was just enough to survive th 3rd wave.
You will have to find out a strategy the first few attempts and many are avaliable.
Creativity: 5
Hm...i have no idea what to say, the scrips is quite short with something like 12 invasions and events in it so nothing really creative about that, i'll go to the map then.
The city looks absolutely stunning, the wall surrounding it was very original, i haven't seen anything like it before, also many costum towers have been included.
In the city itself many strange but so good looking things are found, like bakeries and breweries build agains each ather in a special way.
The keep was just fantastic, all sords of small details at the sides like miniature height diffirences in the lowered walls, the total looks very creative and stunning, this many subtile eye candy and still a realistic and working city
Map Design: 5
What can i say...fantastic as always!
The landscape is rough and at the same time looking very, very peaceful, this is coused by the higher then defoult terrain, it looks simply wonderfull and the small stones finish it, however, shame on the river! When you look at it carefully (as i did, i looked at the landscape alot becouse it looks so nice, not just at the city like quite alot people would)you see that there are huge amounts of squires at the sides, look at it carefully and you'll see them, the banks of the stream/river look quite unnatural becouse of this.
Story/Instructions: 5
Maybe some more detail of what Edoras is and how it came to this attack (that should be fiction and not related to the book) could be added, nice work with the pics though.
Also the description of how the surrounding crumbled was very nice, you can simply see all the plants and trees withering when you read it, very nicely done
Additional Comments:
It took me 3 times to figure out a winning stratgy and it worked good enough, i could stop them just infront of the keep
maybe the last invasion could've been split up in 2 invasions folloing each ather quickly (about a year in between so when the first one would hit you full scale the 2nd one would enter the field)
also, the fact that only one signpost was placed slightly decreased the fun, but i've checked the script and saw that the invasions were balanced in numbers not normal ( 300 macemen or something like that), that needs to be placed in 3 invasions simce one will only hold 100 macemen, with 2 signposts...well you can guess
keep up the good work!

This map is tricky to finish. You have a few years to prepare to the first invasion. I used this time to make the front wall thicker where most enimies attack. Also i bought weapons (bows) from the market and set rations on extra ration too make my people happier. So i were allowed to set taxis on -4 until the first invasion. with all left money i recruted bowmen. When The first invasion arrived i had about 100 archers and the spearmen the knights and swordmen ad the beginning. The first invasion wasnt hard to survive but my walls broke in the west and some enimies came in the citie and destroyed some buildings, but i could kill them with my knights. MY walls were repaired and some new archers were recruted and also some knights. The second invasion waas also not so hard to beat. They didnt break my walls even. Until the last invasion i had about 150 archers and 50 knights but the enimie break through the gate and i could just stoop them shortly away from the keep.
Balance: 5
This map was good balanced but as others mentioned before there should be some events beetween the invasions maybe one or two fires or a pest. the map took my 4 times to complete.
Creativity: 5
difficult to say. Its LOTR and some people did edoras before in stronghold but the towers are very nice and the landscaping is although very creative, exspecially the himalaya mountain.
Map Design: brilliant!!!! the city is great made and the buildings are very nice. the landscaping is although great as well as the hills and mountains
Story/Instructions:The story is well written. how much time did you guys spend on the story?
Additional Comments: a very good map by Warlord Designs. very enyoyable to play keep on guys!!!!

This map was so awesome that there are no words to describe it. I had an absolute blast playing this map.
Balance: 5
People who I have commented on before might know that I l-o-v-e love maps that you can barely win, that you're so badly outnumbered you want to cry. This map not only passed my expectations, it blew right through them. Very nice.
Creativity: 5
Well not many people have done Edoras, and none have made Edroas with custom sounds and music. Regardless of the number of LOTR maps out there, this one is one of the greats.
Map Design: 5
Perfect. Enough said.
Story/Instructions: 5
Impressive. I'm running out of compliments.
Additional Comments: Wow.................so what piece of masterfulness will you be turning out next?

Edoras is not a common map, and any map with sounds is one that has been very creative.

This review is long overdue, as the map has been on my hard drive for months now. Yet ever since I downloaded this absolute masterpiece of scenario design from Warlord_Designs, i've been smitten! It's been played more often than any map I can think of from my maps folder. And here's why...
Edoras is a HUGE invasion map based on a pre-built settlement (I use the term very loosely so as not to offend any die-hard LoTR fans). There is very little micro-management required (the fact that a population of 150+ can be so self-sustaining throughout the life of this map is a real bonus) and your time is spent recruiting troops, fighting off massive invasion forces and desperately trying to repair the breaches in your defences. Combined with the additional sound files to add to the atmosphere, playability is impressive and virtually flawless. This is made even more incredible as large-scale invasion maps can, and do, go horribly wrong. Edoras is smooth, free-flowing and unbelievably addictive to play time and time again. Many different approaches can be taken with this map as it's certainly not a 'sit-back-and-see' scenario. You really do need to actively manoeuvre your units around the map as breaches in your outer walls will happen.
With hardly a moment to rest and recouperate, action is constant. There was a real sense of foreboding as I desperately tried to replace fallen troops in readiness for the final invasions. I knew I would suffer heavy losses. I didn't think I would survive. The atmosphere leading up to battles is really there! This is an incredible map with bags of replayability. Faultless.
Balance: 5
Leading on from the comments made above, the invasions are nothing short of spectacular. Massive in size, varied yet relevant troop combinations are undeniably effective. Watch the eastern side of the map darken as the final invading forces take their place in readiness for the final assault! The first few attempts of this map left me really struggling, falling to the massive onslaught of pikemen. With your troops consisting of knights (the riders, naturally) and a very healthy production of bows in full swing, generating your own troops isn't difficult, but faced with the invasions I was often left wondering if I was going to survive at all! The balance between the size of invasions and your own abilities to generate troops is spot on, though very difficult and requires hard work. In other words, exactly what balance should be in a map such as this!
Creativity: 5
The recreation of Edoras within the confines of the Stronghold editor here is gob-smacking! As a package (creativeness on the part of the designers, the map design and accompanying story, instructions and additional information), there is nothing to fault and plenty of praise due to Warlord_Designs. As a large invasion map without the additional information, the creative aspect of such a difficult scenario deserves due respect. The scenario as a whole drips with lovely touches, such as the alternative style of story and the additional sound files.
Map Design: 5
Where to start?! The landscape surrounding Edoras is beautifully done, with a harsh feel to it in places (not a negative comment, harsh landscapes are good!) and beautiful flatter areas (it's so good to see flat landscape that isn't based on lowest height modelling). In my opinion, nobody can recreate intricate landscapes like Warlord_Designs can! The use of himalaya is wonderfully blended in with the preset heights and looks completely natural. Without the buildings, this would be a wonderful freebuild map! However, the real gem here is the fantastically detailed, expertly modelled and genuine living, breathing settlement. It's a joy to see such attention to detail! The defences were expertly done, the little building structures gave life to the settlement.. all in all, a pleasure to look at, with the added bonus of being perfectly functioning, every building having a distinct purpose to the scenario.
Story/Instructions: 5
Warlord_Designs know how to package a map with a pertinent and highly relevant story/instructions set. The story article is a really nice touch, something different from the majority of maps and the inclusion of the pictures and artwork was, for me, essential. The sound files, as stated above, support the scenario superbly. Everything you need is within the zip file. Kudos to you both for such well put together download!
Additional Comments:
One of the finest invasion maps available at this site, if not the best. Already downloaded in healthy numbers, this map deserves one more review in recognition of a piece of quality design.
