Greetings Lords and Ladies,
It has been some time since I last created a crusader map, and this one has taken quite some time to prepare, from its humble origin as an incomplete entry for the historical design competition it laid dormant for some time.
However I am extremely pleased to have finally finished the map and even more pleased that it is here for you all to enjoy.
Here's some of the History, the full historical document can be viewed in the zip file.
Krak Des Chevaliers, also known as Crac des Chevaliers which mean Fortress of the Knights in a mixture of Arabic and French acted as the headquarters of the Knights Hospitaller, a monastic order which was first founded after the pope Gregory the Great commissioned the building of a hospital in Jerusalem. The monastic hospitaller order was founded following the First Crusade by the Blessed Gerard, whose role as founder was confirmed by a Papal bull of Pope Paschal II in 1113. Gerard acquired territory and revenues for his order throughout the Kingdom of Jerusalem and beyond. His successor, Raymond du Puy de Provence, established the first significant Hospitaller infirmary near to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Initially the group just cared for those pilgrims who made it to Jerusalem but the order soon extended into providing an armed escort to pilgrims. The escort soon grew into a substantial force.
Have fun and good luck,
Alexus.

Wow,
Thanks for the review, Im glad you liked it.
Always good to hear positive feedback, thanks. :)
I'd like to know what techneque you used in the siege, did you take it front on from the position your troops were in? or did you move to any other side?
Again thanks.

I separated all my troops in their types (Archers with archers and horse archers, slintgers in a side, swordsmen in other, etc.) I sent first the archers and horse archers first. I sometimes retreated and came back, then I included the slingers to the stuff. After eliminating the side of the castle where you appear, I manned the fire balistas and set up some random things up. I continued eliminating the walls with the slingers and horse archers, etc. and with the fire balistas way back for overing fire. after eliminating almost all the units in the walls, I proceede to eliminate foot troops. When those were finished, I sent the swordsmen to kill the Lord. But there's this tiny problem: The map doese'nt appear in the "play map" section in custom maps. As a good Krak de Chevaliers fan, I was so desperate to play so I played in the mapmaker itself. How do you make it to play it as a siege? |

This map is a perfect gem. When you defeat it you feel as if you accomplished a day at work, or school.
Balance: 5
The balance was excellent. It took me four or five tries to get the right approach.

Even though the map has been made plenty of times, i couldn't get over the eye candy in this. Custom Stairs, square towers, two keeps, and large farms, were all a dazzling sight to the eye

Crusader is a bit harder to make a map look nice, then in regular stonghold, form my opinion. On your map, this certainly deserves a high five *Snicker*
Story/Instructions: 5
A Nice story, and background information about the castle.
Additional Comments:
This is a must have!! Like i said above, a true gem! |

Lord Michael,
Im not sure why it doesnt appear, if you place it in the stronghold crusader map folder than start crusader you should be able to find it in the custom scenario section. Then go to play map.
Are you sure you didnt go to crusader mode? Let me know, should be there.

Thanks for the review brandonlavoie,
I'm really glad to hear that people are enjoying the map, I know what you mean, the challenge of the siege was one that took me about 10 times to get right, feels good to se the victory screen. :)
Once again thank you for your wonderful review.

What i did, was at first, moved all my troops back, as knights, macemen, and swordsmen, charged into my lines. As soon as those units we're killed, i moved my archers to a cliff right infront of the castle, far away enough, so that they got the upperhand, attacking the archers on the wall. About 1/2 of them died and the wall was cleared. After that i moved my fire ballistae to where the archers we're and took out remaining units. I built a catapult and a ram. I sent down some swordsmen and then ram, and knocked a whole in the wall. For some reason, some of my men could not get in. After that, i brought down all of my ranged units and took out the archers in the inner keep. Most of them died. I used the ram on the gatehouse and rushed my swordsmen in there. after a large battle, i still had about 100 swordsmen left and killed the lord. |
