The year 334 B.C. Alexander the Great's campaign of world conquest has been momentarily halted by the Persians at the river Granicus in western Turkey. The odds are slightly in the Persian's favor. Their heavy cavalry and Greek hoplite mercenaries outnumber the Macedonians. But Alexander has a plan. He will use his own cavalry to draw away the Persian cavalry, and then strike and surround the Greeks on foot. A gamble, yes, but if it pays off, his conquest continues. If it fails...........
So I was bored and decided to do a few historical maps. Let me know what you think. Please rate or comment on, good or bad, I want to know. (History of the battle in wordpad file.)
*updated* This map has added features, which you will find out for yourself. In the first map, there weren't objectives or instructions.
Objectives:
-Destroy the Persian and Greek armies.
-Kill Persian commander.
*IMPORTANT*: The starting date is 334, so you must go into the map editor and set the date to 334 before you play for it to work right, otherwise it will be the default 1066 and not work. |

Truly, I think you put those troop formations for nothing, I know how it is Alexander the Great and how he was so organized, but the ford only allows a limited space for the troops to walk through, I know it doesn't matter in the game, but people these days shoot for realistic maps.[Edited on 03/23/06 @ 08:12 PM]

It was playable, just that.
The map balence and the troop balence was ok.
It was a creative map, with a creative story line
Map design was good but hard to get through the ford.
Like I said in creativity, the story was creative[Edited on 04/04/06 @ 07:22 PM]

how can the story be creative when this was an actual event???
This actual events' story lines are all based on how much the maker of the map researches and how much he decides to share with us, if it's totally off topic it may not count. |

Playability: 4
Though this map was short, it did require some strategic thinking in deciding what troops attack the ennemy, and when and where to do so. As mentioned the map doesn't end, there are win and lose conditions, just a simple error that i once made when i first starte out, the date, though earlier than the stare once wont work, you should include the same condition just remove the dates or change them to the same one as when you begin play. Also you dont have a lord so you sould remove the kill lord condition in lose. Don't worry we all make mistakes. ;)
Balance: 4
The balnce was fairly good for a short map which involves only troop movement, of course keeping back your archers and then firing on troops that dont move does upset it a bit, but still a good four.
Creativity: 3
These kind of maps are always difficult and I think its safe to say that we wont see one of these battle type maps getting too many fives because they are so open to various gameplays and balance issues. I have give a three be casuse though not new, it still showed creativiy in how the layout was made, good job.
Map Design: 3
Your map design needs work, though small maps never have much to work with, looking back on some of our earlier works, Arthus and I have a good laugh at how simple our maps were, but back at the time we though they were great, just keep downloading other maps and learning how to build your terraining skill and your bound to see improvements.
Story/Instructions: 3
Sorry, cant give much more here and I am giving a three becasue i dont want to hurt the score too much, try to provide more information, even if its not a story give insight into how and why you made the map, or provide some tips. usually the web space and the in game stoy box arent enough to get a 5, try a word document etc.
Additional Comments:
Overall a fairly simple map, but thats how everyone starts, keep up the map making and you'll get better.
As for the comment:
'Yeah burner that was kind of a stupid map'
left by IronFists, don't let the stupidity of a member to get on your back, some individuals don't offer any thing constuctive becasue they cant take critisisms themselves.
Give Nat an email and Im sure he'll have a word with IronFists, remember don't let them get on your nerves and just dont become who they are.
Keep up the mapmaking,

Alexus. :) |
