Hardenbourg Castle v1.2

Author File Description

Map Size: 400x400 (Large)
Minimap:
My first proper map! (so please rate! :D) Hope you enjoy!
I original made this as a siege map, but in my stupidity I made it as a freebuild, but hey, lets see if you can destroy yourself with the F1 invasion feature.

UPDATES:

I HAVE ADDED A BRIDGE INSIDE THE CASTLE AND FIXED THE BACKWARD FLOWING WATERFALL!

I HAVE UPDATED IT, AND MADE IT INTO AN INVASION MAP- EMAIL ME AT MALA_FACUNDIA@HOTMAIL.CO.UK IF YOU WISH TO TRY IT!

Anyway…. The story:

At the turn of the third century, a powerful crusader-king stretched his empire to the limits. He built many forts all over his ranged empire to help defend his threatened lands. High in the cliffs of Hardenbourg, in the centre of his own Kingdom he built one such fort which soon became the centre of his government down river from the huge city that was his capitol.

For a further fifty years the empire stood strong. But the legendary king fell ill and died an agonising deat. His children squabbled over the lands, and it quickly fell to pieces under the constant attack of the barbarian hoards from across the boarders and from those who wished to be liberated. Land after land fell to their brute force. Many of the princes met their deaths at the hands of the barbarians, and then, only one heir remained.

You are the last remaining heir. You have been forced to withdraw to the old fort of Hardenbourg. Many years have passed and peace has swept across the old lands of the empire.
Your fort has evolved into a castle and it appears to your neighbours that you are a threat to them (this is where you destroy yourself with the F1 key). It is your time to prove yourself to be the worthy and rightful heir of your father.

A couple of notes:

There are three ways in which the keep can be broken into from: the front entrance and the two round back on either side of the river.
There are also several directions to attack from, but unless you can see it on the map, I am not going to tell you. :D
The only remaining land for farming is on the flat lands at the front of the keep, which is constantly in danger if you are under attack, which would have been difficult if I made it as a siege... thank you stupidity…

This is my first proper map, and it took me quite some time to do the landscaping! Tell me what you think!

King Bret Popo Hey man, just to let you know, you can still make it a siege map.

To change the map type, just follow my instructions.

In the main screen of the map editor, press ALT & "," (Comma).

A screen will come up and will let you switch between map types. After you have made your decision just press "esc" or "enter" or "go back" Sorry, not sure which one it is. And presto your map will be a siege map or whatever.
Dougleass Playability: 4
Well..... as long as it's a cool castle, it's fun to be lord over it, right?

Balance: 3
Have nothing to say here, i'm just giving it the medium scoring... it's a freebuild

Creativity: 3
Nothing new really, though i like the river flowing through the castle, looks very nice.

Map Design: 4
Not bad, but not breathtaking. Looked impressive on the minimap. You can see he tried on the terraining. It's almost a 3 for me, but after taking a look at the road in to the castle, and the church and all, I decided to make a 4. But it's barely a 4.
Maybe too many houses and granaries? Also maybe too big stock in my opinion.
Anda tip for that ford, is that it could be replaced with a bridge. First, it doesn't really look so naturally to be honest, and secondly, a bridge would just look very good and blend in.

Story/Instructions: 3
Well, there's a story and it's not too short. Deserves a 3 I think.

Additional Comments:
Overall, a fairly good map. Still just a freebuild... Has a potential to be an interesting invasion/siege map.

thanks, i'll try and change the scenario type to be a seige and update/repost the map!
and as for the grannaries and houses, wanted the ability to store a lot of food, as i did design it as a seige, and the loads of houses were to encourage growth to build an army... and i don't know how to build bridges...

Watch this space!

Dougleass are you familiar with the lowered walls trick?
Lord_Facundia

Ok, thanks for the help! I have now added a bridge inside the castle and fixed the backward flowing waterfall...
Dougleass nice, nice... Didn't expect towers on the bridge but it's cool.

You should really make it an invasion, it looks like it could be fun in this castle.
