Endangered Rainforest ~Update

Author File Description
Brad98
File Details
Map Size: 400x400 (Large)
Number of Players: 4
Balance: Unbalanced
Difficulty: Normal
Minimap:
This map was very time consuming in the making of it, but i think it turned out alright. There are many resources scattered throughout this map for building a strong empire. The magnificent waterfall in the top right raised hell in the forest below and flooded it creating rivers, creeks and streams abundant. There is also a large supply of wildlife (deer, not the annoying rabbits) that will aid in feeding your people. I tried to make it balanced but it is harder to do on this type of map.

Please give me some feedback on it and ratings to let others know and decide whether or not they would like to download it. Criticism and complements always welcome!

-Brad

---Update: Added more space to build castle walls and added some touch-ups.

----Update(2): Redesigned castle area for top castle, fixed other various things, moved resources & waterways.

h1_longbowman The map looks incredibly alive in vegetation. Brad i think u shoulda provided more room for the keeps. Is this map indeeded purely for Multiplayer(lan) or single player>??. Think Ai's might just hav a little prob with finishing their fortifications.

I was wondering about the space i provided, I will update it in a little while with more space.. This map was made for either single or multi, I think that it would be good for both as soon as i get the AI bugs worked out.

P.S.-Please rate it and let me what you guys think..

Yasko The minimap looks very good, I'm downloading now and will rate it sometime tomorow. I don't think there will be any castle jams with AI opponents. Judging from the minimap there looks to be enough room for any AI character, even the Wolf.

Thanks Yasko, looking forward to your rating!

Yasko Playability: 3
I tried this map both ways, against a friend on a LAN and purely AI skirmish, placing myself on lower right keep with 2 on 2 teams. Playability is okay, just a couple things could improve. There's plenty of room for AI so no castle jams occured. Multiple paths were created to move around but the lower keep used the same path everytime and so was very easy to defend against. For some reason the upper keeps build up a mamoth defense, but never attack, and at no time did any enemies use siege weapons - just a constant stream of a few easily defeated opponents. The design looks sound, so I don't know why this happens. The only remedy I can think of is to place the teams equi-distant from each other, but that's probably too major of a change if you want to keep the original layout, which looks great. Also, the lower left keep has the "no lord spawned" problem. This is a quick fix, just respawn the lord in the map editor and resave. This map plays well with multiplayer in mind. There's a lot of resources and large-scale battles are guaranteed!

Balance: 3
Balance is decent. Just a minor issue with resources, namely the iron and stone. Some stone and iron was placed too far from the keeps and wasn't utilized. Also, it was placed as big blobs. While this design works well when used behind keeps located in the corners (such as your "Four corners" map), other maps seem to look and work better if stone and iron are placed at various locations in smaller amounts.

Creativity: 4
I've encountered a couple rainforest maps made on Crusader, and you've included the one important thing the others don't have: water! Rainforests should be wet, and great job making it look that way.

Map Design: 4
Great job! Crusader is better suited to dry environments, so making a convincing rainforest like this one is commendable. Your choice of using date palms was a good one since they reproduce on any oasis land. Within 20 minutes the entire map was covered with trees just like a real rainforest. The map was moderately polished, and while I thought the roads weren't a good choice at first, they looked great as the forest thickened. Placing bushes and ferns would have been a good addition. The river systems reminded me of the Brazilian rainforest delta. Crusaders in Brazil makes no sense, but then again I make maps with hand-shaped mountains and giant footprints, so who's to argue?

Story/Instructions: 4
Stories are hard to come up with for crusader skirmishes, so I don't think it's a requirement. You included a premise and instructions, which is all you need. A good interesting story enhances the experience and gets you a 5 though!

Additional Comments:
Your maps keep getting better and better. Keep up the good work!

Venomrider AI is an abbreviation for artificial intelligence Lord_Mincy, it is a shorter way to say computer intelligence.
