Dunnottar Castle's clifftop plateau is one of the most beautiful places of Scotland. The keep was constructed in 1392 by Sir William Keith, Great Marischal of Scotland. Geografically it's a very mysterious place, in Pictish ti,es it was chosen as a center of strength and by Saint Ninian as a place of retreat. Much history took place here over the years, most
famously though, it was at Dunnottar Castle that a small garrison held out against the might of Cromwell's army for eight months and saved the Scottish Crown Jewels, the 'Honours of Scotland', from destruction; but somehow it fell into decay.
