The region subsequently fell into a decline and came under the tutelage of various Persian and Seleucid dynasties for some centuries. The region rose in importance for a second time however with the rise of Islam. Muslim Arabs stormed Mesopotamia in AD 656 as part of their rampage throughout the region. The strategic importance of the region's waterways played a key part in the political consolidation of the vigorous new monotheistic parvenu. By 762, the Abassid Caliphate had moved to Baghdad, which - as the descendant of nearby Babylon - soon came to rival its progenitor's historical fame as one of the world's great centres of power, religion, art and learning. Baghdad remained a site of contestation for some time. The area now known as Iraq was dominated in the late 1300s and early 1400s by the Black Sheep Turkmen, until the rival White Sheep Turkmen took over in 1466. Finally the Ottomans established suzerainty over the region and incorporated it into their Istanbul-centric empire in 1534

There endith the history lesson for today.

You are the commander of a "mixed bag" army of specialists, irregulars, and infantry. There are also some mounted nobles accompaning the army. Attack the ancient and fortified تل قرنفليّة (English: Pink Sand Hill), named from the bloodstained sand permanently stained pink from the blood of many battles, outside Baghdad (now Iraq). The defenders are well armed and expecting trouble. After killing the local leader, insert your own puppet king and manage the economy for two years. You must withstand at least one major attack from the insurgents in the area to achieve victory.

This is a cede so have fun attacking and defending the place!

Thanks everyone. I travelled the middle east in the early 90s. I have many map ideas from my travels and experiences there.

Despite my own personal views of the war and current situtation in Iraq, I wanted to make a map that gave a historical look with a good game. What is in the future for the middle east, unknown. But we certainly know the past has been a bloody one.

Playability: 4.5
Excellent map. The key to winning is a good strong defense. That's kind of important on ANY castle, but more so here. You take the hill and it's really not to built up, you have to position your troops correctly or you'll get I did..........thrice. The first time, I didn't remember it was a cede map, because it sat on my desktop for a week before I got around to playing it, so I had no idea what it was. I didn't get my defenses up in time and was soundly thumped. The second, I thought I was ready, and I wasn't. Thumped again. But I beat it........finally.......after getting overrun a THIRD time.

Balance: 5
If a map takes me three or more tries on Very Hard, then it's good enough for a five from me.

Creativity: 5
I like how you drew on your experiance in the middle east to create this map, but that wasn't enough for a 5. Neither was the fact it was a cede castle scenario. Though uncommon, they've been done before. However, no one has used arabic in the map descriptions or titles before, so five.

Map Design: 4.5
Very impressive map, but since most crusader maps are dessert maps, I can't really give a perfect five. Nothing stood out enough for me to give it a five.

Story/Instructions: 5
This was good. Wasn't too long, nor too short. The background was informative, and the objectives of this map were clearly defined. Good enough for me.

Another success by lollard. I hope to see another of your maps up here soon.

doomrocker Hey man i know dis is late but a great map. I had to think when it was easy to take the castle... then i was sieged and i lost 4 times! Good map

Playability: 4.5
Provided with an assortment of foot soldiers, one had to strategise. I decided to keep some foes busy with the crossbowmen and horsemen while the macemen went for the kill.

Balance: 3
I had to give u a 3 coz the first part of taking out the enemy troops was quite easy,the invasions that followed were too hard. furthermore the signposts were a bit close to the hill, i think. I've played the map 6 times and all the time i lost badly. Maybe there were too many archers on thier side

Creativity: 5
A womderful idea incorperated in a map. and a cute name for a hill.

The design of the map was fine. The distant guard posts of arabians guarding lions and stuff made no sense. lol..interesting to see farms soaked in oil fields. Well it's a pretty large map so designing every bit of it ...uh..

Story/Instructions: 5
More of an anecdote than a story.

Additional Comments:
this is the only map of yers that i've not been to play through and achieve victory. that goes for "Demise of Blind Emir" too.
