995 - Emirates of Ylarum

Author File Description

Map Size: 400x400 (Large)
Difficulty: Impossible
Minimap:
This map portrays the city of Ylarum in the Emirates of Ylarum from OD&D. Sunbaked land surrounds a ancient but self sufficent walled oasis. You must use stealth and strategy in this, the conclusion of my dated series. This walled city is definately one of a kind in defensive design.

You are being paid 2000 gold coins to kill the Emir. Ofcourse you dont really want or need the money, all your population was killed long ago. You just want a chance at killing the Emir. You gather all your old cronies and pals and meet under the cover of darkness near the city. Your ally Sultan Abdul and his gang of thieves, snitches, and cutthroats are present at the meeting. All is well until a hue and cry is raised! You have been discovered and informed on, and now have the city on alert. Get back in the city and use stealth to get to your fire ballistas in the far corner. They are currently unmanned but can be a dangerous threat in a crowded city. Move along the walls or near them and ignite whole blocks on the move towards the inner citadel. Or try your own new and creative attack plan. The city is fully functional and will defend itself. Attack the citadel by any means neccessary. This is a suicide mission and has been completed one time only by my playtester.

The Inner Citadel (Palace of the Emir)

EDIT - difficulty changed to impossible for the normal player.

The map was very fun. However, the only working stragety I could come up with involved very reitive actions and was not too high on the fun-ometer. Also, the two balista towers were perfectly placed for a constant hassle

Balance: 5
You map was hard, but far from impossible. It only took me three reloads to find a working stragity. (I won't reveal this stragity as to not ruin the map for others). The first relod was due to me thnking that swordsmen and sribic sworsmen could dig moats. The third one was to find the best place to assult the Citadel. Anywas, who wants a map where you have to reload a dozen times?

I don't give explanations on creativity.

Super-dooper. The city was degisined nicely, the walls were nice, but not extrodanarly creative, and there was no stragities I could use that would be that are cheap. At first, i though i could move my baslistas inside the wall, but found a hill blocking thier progress. But serously, why do you have sultan on the map as your ally? The fact that his castle was prt-way destroyed was kind of cool though (im assuming that that's what the semi ircle of walls are.)

Story/Instructions: 5
The last in you historical series is as prestine and well though out as your first. But seriously, stick with Crusader maps. Its all I have.

I'm glad you enjoyed the map, got the victory, and gave it the very nice rating. I like to see positive input on my maps! I did submit a map in stronghold 1 invasions. The current whereabouts of that map is unknown.

A new map is on the drawing board and I will be sticking with crusaders for a while.

God Avo If your maps are not showing up on the list by the time new maps gets added, then it is being playtested by Duc De Noisiel.

Excellent, just excellent. The only problem was that I could think of only one way to win, and that made the replayibility go down. I also had trouble finding the fire ballista...

Balance: 5
Make one mistake, and you're out of the game, my friend. STRATEGIZE!

Creativity: 5
I liked the castle design, the outer wall, and the citadel. The whole thing, I suppose! Also liked the ruins of Sultan Abdul's castle.

Map Design: 5
See creativity.

Story/Instructions: 5
Not much to say, except for what I've said ofr everything else: good!

Thanks for the high review. Im really happy about the way the series went and hope you got to play at least one of the others in the dated series too.

Make sure you make a multiplayer map. Then start up a skirmish (crusader) game, and place computer AIs (some work better, trial and error on this) in your premade keep. If there are premade buildings, the AI will automatically work them. Start the game and then hit esc and save the game once you have the AI up and running the way you like it.

After saving your multiplayer map in mid action, then you need to find the firefly studios folder in program files on your hard drive. Go in there and find stronghold crusader SAVED games. Find your saved game (.sav), and rename it, making sure to change the ".sav" to a ".map" during the renaming process. This will make your saved game into a map file. Then move the renamed map file (which used to be your saved game with the AI playing) to the map file in stronghold crusader; program files; maps.

Then load this new map in the editor. Hit "alt + ," and change it to a invasion map. Then the AI should run smoothly during a invasion scenario. This process tends to mess up cedes.

Solarian "Your goods have arrived. Many thanks, my friend."

Sorry, I could resist. ;-)

Anyway, I suspected something like that, but wasn't quite sure and wanted confimation. Now to go try that out.
Solarian Thanks again.
