Playability: 3.5
Perhaps I should have read the difficulty first, I thought this map would be possible to accomplish, but alas, your men are left strewn in a row as they futily try to break through the bolts and arrows to get to the gatehouse. Whereas they get lit on fire to seal your defeat.
The opposing force, although nicely rowed, are in no way an immediate threat. To make the battle more cinematic, you could have paused the editor, with alt + H, then you could have had the enemy pikeman attack different targets of your infantry. If you had made the ford right in between the two armies, it could have been entertaining stuff.
Impossible? Indeed, did he warn us? Yes, a largly well done attempt but a little lackluster.
Balance: 3
There is at least 120 Pikeman situated across from you, and I suggest taking the southern route to get to the castle. These Pikeman are in no way a direct threat, as I have stated, for the reason that they are not in aggressive stance and can be easily shuffled around. The few archers being defended by them are not a threat because of thier small numbers.
When you get to the castle, you die. Impossible but then again that's what the difficulty is. If you could have given the player a fleeting chance, even a marginal chance of victory, then this score would be higher, make it impossible, but make it intense.
Creativity: 3.5
A compact, bi-tiered citadel, with little to no chance of penetrating the inner wall. The opposing army is good to look at, but not functional at all, although it was a decent concept.
Map Design: 4.0
The terrain was actually well done, with a large realistic river, a citadel that looked unstoppable.
My only gripe would be that the fords are a little small, and the way to attack the inner gatehouse is a little narrow.
**If this is on purpose, then I will change it to a 4.**
UPDATE- It was on purpose, a 4 is dservant. ; )
Story/Instructions: 3.5
A tiny insy winsy story that gets the job done but is as lackluster as the playability. Instructions are impossible, not held against you, and are well explained.
Additional Comments: While not being a good fan of impossible maps, this one caught my attention by the citadel, the river, and the laid out armies across from each other. With a little bit of playtesting and a little more balancing, this could have been so much more.
Overall a good first attempt.
