Peasants stand alone

Map Size: 160x160 (Tiny)
Difficulty: Normal
Minimap:

Our story begins rather simply. You are the shire-reeve1* for the very small village of Felicitas in the Kingdom of Nemestrinus a kingdom comprised completely of the Silvanus forest.  Your task in definition is simple, protect your village and its people, but carrying out this task is much easier to say then do. Your village consists of nothing but common folk, hard working hunters, farmers, millers, craftsman and masons. You have no soldiers to help protect your village but the archery skills that many of your citizen’s posses for hunting, the resources provided by the Earth and your wit.

Your village is on the border of Dei Lucrii, a kingdom that does not care for Nemestrinus simply because of their lack of the resource wood; they must purchase it in large quantities for their more isolated cities like Sors. Their kingdom is dry and arid, even the Egestes River fails to provide much relief for the infertility the kingdom suffers. Being that you must cut away the forest to open up land for the buildings and possible farms (the ground doesn’t always prove fertile enough for farms once trees are removed) you become subject to the evening wind that howls toward the forest due to the heat exchange of the arid land so to protect your village from this you have already constructed a wall to divert the wind. The wood that your village accumulates is sold at a nice profit in the open market at Aequitas, the large trade city in the Kingdom of Empanda, which provides a nice steady income. You have some housing, a mill, bakery and other buildings that are the beginning makings of your village. There are only two major cities in Nemestrinus, Sancus the capitol and Aurora. The rest of the country is made up of villages like yours, which are scattered throughout the forest kingdom and face many of the same perils. What can set one apart from the other and the chances for its survival is its leadership and ability of lateral thinking. That’s where you come in.

Rumors are spreading from village to village that small bands of Dei Lucrii soldiers are pillaging villages at random along the Dei Lucrii, Nemestrinus border. There will be no help from the king as word could not be sent fast enough and the cost of sending the soldiers could out way the benefit of protecting the small villages, they may be needed at Sancus and Aurora. You must fend off the pillagers with the resources you have but be wary, once the commander hears of a loss of a small centuria2* he will be out to seek restitution. He must maintain face with his King.

1* shire-reeve:
origins of sheriff

2* centuria:
Although the name centuria would seem to indicate a unit of a hundred soldiers, this unit could comprise anything from 30 to over 200 individuals.

To help explain, the places that are in bold are all located on a country side that I created and each crusader map I create is based on these locations and the interactions between these kingdoms. I have a rough sketch and plan on drawing a better one that I can post with my uploads to share with those interested.
I hope you enjoy my map and belive me, it isn't hard, just makes you think. Let me know what you think please :)
Darth_Dota Hey man, from the mini map I can tell you really put a lot of effort into this. Its a bit of a shame that I don't have Crusader and can't play and review this map.

That being said, I do think that your idea of forcing the player to relie on hunters to defend their settlement is truly original. The only thing I have seen that is close to it is the good old fashioned woodcutter vs wolfs scenario.

To sum up, good work man, shame I can't give you anymore feedback ^^

Oh yea one last thing, the bottom of the minimap looks a bit bland, try to fill it up with something, say a series of hills.

Hills and some rocks would have worked perfect! I will definetly add those things to spice up that style of landscape in the future. It crossed my mind how simple it looked when creating the map but didn't think of anything to do to it and I was tunnel visioned on the forest and the thought quickly passed. Thanks for the comments, I was hoping something like this hadn't been done before.

This map has been updated due to fact that I had accidently made the map eaiser in my orignial upload ending it one invasion to soon, but the fix should work just fine now. (if it isn't please someone let me know)
I have also included a strategy guide with the upload, but I encourage you to try to defeat the map before reading it. I would love to hear the ideas you all have come up with to try to survive this map. Comments are greatly apprciated.

ps.
My appologize to those that have already uploaded the map and I hope they enjoyed it enough to try this updated version of it.

Stratego A nice tiny map, but fairly easy to handle (without using the hint file); due to a thriving economy I was able to keep popularity and taxation up;by the way, I suggest leaving out various buildings such as dairy farms, apple orchards or iron mines as well. Wheat seems to fetch a good price, thus, I bought hundreds of bows recruiting strong forces of archers to defend my compact position. Many traps and pitch ditches placed and ignited in front of the three rows thick stone walls have been very efficient to repel the increasing number of invaders. Periodically, I could even accelerate game speed (up to 60)... Nevertheless a fine and enjoyable map. Well done!

Thank you, exactly the kind of response I was hopeing to get. I'm glad to see that another strategy was found and was also very effective. If I could limit the amount of archers available, I would have done that. I'm curious what you thought of my idea in defending the tiny town?
