An Invasion Mission for Stronghold Ver. 1.2

To use this map, simply unzip to your Maps Folder in your Stronghold Directory. ( C:\Program Files\FireFly Studios\Stronghold\Maps ) It will then be available under the Invasions Section of the game.
Fleeing Due de Puce's tyranny, a small group of his former officers and engineers, along with their families, seek safety from The Rats wrath. They realize that de Puce is not entirely stable and that attaching themselves to his star is a Dead End. All they want is to live their lives, growing their own food and raise their families, in peace. But Due de Puce does not see it that way. He still claims his former vassals and will not stop short of anything, including all their deaths, to reclaim them to himself. He feels that they and all that they have and will accomplish, belongs to him. This includes all their families, their homes, their food and their lands that they have explored and semi-tamed. It is up to you, as their Newly Elected Leader, to guide and protect these people from the riggers of frontier life and fend off The Rat's rage until such time as Due de Puce finds something else to amuse himself with.
This map features:
1) A small river isle sporting a small stone keep with attached tower and flagpole suitable for defending your settlement from both man and beast.
2) Two single and one double stone quarry sites for castle construction and profit.
3) Eight underground metal mines located throughout the map for both weapons construction and profit. (Note: Most have two entrances to help prevent accidental blockage.)
4) Ample game and farmland to feed your people.
5) Four signposts for that 360 degree, God only knows where they will attack from next action.

Playability: this map plays like a dream, perfect in almost every way. I have thoroughly enjoyed playing this and it kept me on my toes throughout. The strength of this map must be the steady build-up of tension, the perfectly linking advisor and military prompts to the events that unfold. It all fits together so well to leave a smooth game, at about the right length for an action-based map.
Balance: Perfect. The combination of invasions and economic goals, as well as pleasing your people, is a winning formula but this really does prove that done right, it can add longevity to a map. It gets tough towards the end, and if you think you are about ready to hold off the invasions whilst you meet the economic goals, think again. I managed to complete the map with all but one of the goals achieved before the invasions ended, but this wasn't a problem it gave me time to rake in the cash whilst I investigated the map.
Creativity: As above, done very well to allow a near perfect economic/invasion game. You can tell by playing this within about 15 minutes that it is achievable. Nice storyline.
Map Design: I liked the idea of having a small area in the centre of the map as your base. I thought initially that the castle wouldn't be big enough, but it holds most of the buildings you want to protect. Good use of the terrain editor, which I am always pleased to see. Even the small stone keep (my favourite, god only knows why though) and the tower attached, with the flagpole seemed to fit in with the story and the game as a whole.
Story/Instructions: well presented, a clear story to follow and useful pointers to what is available. Had a chuckle at the description page before downloading re 360 degree action! My sort of humour.
In summary, I would heartily recommend that this map is downloaded and played. However, looking at the download number to date, I think most people are keen to see what the map is about. One question: why call it 'surrounded by an idiot'?!

|The Red Baron
Playability: Although not very challenging I found this map very fun to play. There were very few moments in the scenario where I was not busy.
Balance: Although a lot of fun and sort of challenging I was able to win this map the first time I played it. The two big invasions at the end were large but by that time I had way too many archers and xbowmen.
Creativity: Well thought out. I liked the use of the underground mines, nice touch. I also liked the set up with the keep on the island. However, because of this the invasions had limited access to my fortifications, which may have caused the scenarios balance to suffer. There was good diversity in events and in the goals. The in game use of the rats and pigs taunts worked well. It genuinely seemed as if the rat had tried and failed and that he was begging for help from the pig.
Map Design: Again I liked the mines and the overall look of the map. I personally loved the four signposts. The idea that invasions can come from anywhere is a definite plus.
Story: Nothing fancy in this scenario but I found the write up better than most. The way t was written I thought about the write up while playing. So it gave a good backdrop for the action.
