A tricky and interesting concept is provided here. You will have to use unusual tactics to bring the mission to its good ending.
Gold does not count in this scenario - fine. It's rather sheer survival of the settlement.
My gameplay split into two halfs. Building up some usual buildings including weapon workshops and training the initial 30 archers. They are needed to finish off some invasions and many packs of lions that have assembled on the only frutile piece of land on the map.
Second part was cultivating the soil. But, alas, only one farms fits onto the spot. So at first a wheat farm ... to spare the food for the period of growing hops? Well, now the time has come when you may get the revenge of an overly happy building up. Gold has run out and food is fading away ...
Trained away 2 x 8 peasants (and smashed hovels). Tried to get in enough gold by good things to buy apples and sustain food consumption. No chance.
Do you know about the four loyal peasants remaining with the Lord? They will make ends meet. 1 mate working at the farm, 1 as mill boy and 2 baking bread. With no respect for popularity, you can even implement a -5 fear factor to shorten waiting.

I played this, but why did you spoil it by giving away the strategy? You should delete the tips.
