The Catastrophe

Zeus, father of the God's, was accosted by a group of angry Olympians each speaking loudly and angrily. They were angry at the land of Godam and were demanding that somethig be done about these terrible people. What was their sin: rape? pillage? sexual deviation? lying? cheating? adultry? general dishonesty? No, although all the above was true. Their real sin was a refusal to worship the Gods. Some local deities were even dying for lack of worshipers. Hearing this Zeus became angry and in his wrath determined to destroy Godom and all the inhabitants thereof.

Your father Joah upon hearing of the impending disaster hastened to sacrifice to Zeus and implore him to have mercy on the land. Zeus then softened his heart and said to Joah because of your devotion I will not utterly destroy the land but the punishment will be terrible. Then throughout the land the ground shook, splintered, and shattered. When the dust settled Zeus's plan became evident. The entire land had been divided into six rectangles. Half of the rectangles contained abundant grass for crops but no minerals. Half were totaly barren unable to grow food crops but with abundant deposits of iron and stone. Zeus apparently wanted the men of Godom to learn to live in peace by trading with each other as no one had acess to all the materials needed for civililazation.

Your father Joah was killed in the disaster, therefore you must lead your people to safety. What choice will you make, food or mineral wealth? Chose wisely as a wrong choice could lead to disaster.

This map is unbalanced but in my opinion not unfair as it is possible to win in any location. I intended this map to pose problems for the experienced player. I would play 1 on 5, however for the less experienced player I would suggest 3 on 3 or even a free for all. The mercenary post is disabled.

By the way the geography of this map is not natural, if you have a problem with that, take it up with with Zeus after all he was the landscape designer.

The playability took me away. The A.I. was absolutely perfect and not being able to build a mercenary post was a real challenge. I was in the middle up the top (probably the hardest place to be). The three snakes I was versing kept sending slaves my way, I hadn't built walls yet so they just ran straight in. As soon as I saw them, I restarted because I knew I had lost. The second time, I built walls in a flash. And my allies were great, their A.I. was awesome too.

Balance: 5
The map was perfectly symmetrical. Except, you had two choices: 1. play on oasis grass with no iron and no stone and be able to have farms. 2. Or, play on a dry sort of land and have stone and iron. I placed myself with oasis grass. I could easily buy the stone and iron because I didn't have to buy it often.

Creativity: 4
Creativity was ok. Although other people have made symmetrical maps and it kind of gets boring with not natural scenery, but your map was great. Better than others, that is.

Map Design: 3
Sorry, but you could have made the high plains so that they also looked natural instead of having big square pieces of high plain here and there. You should have equalized it. Also, with the small rivers, they could have had a bit more work put into them. Rocks along the side would have looked better.

Story/Instructions: 4
Story... one I have never heard of before. Interesting though. It was good but it was not that good.

Additional Comments:
If anybody wants a super fun skirmish map to play, this is it. I enjoyed this map a lot.

This is a five because if you start with the industry, you sell everything to buy food after building a castle. If you start with the food, then you sell everything for industry. very interresting and a change of pace for me

Balance: 5
The balance was great. If you play with food, then you can sell everything to have an economy equal to someone with all the stone and viceversa. good.

Creativity: 4.5
I have seen a couple maps like this, but i only took off half because this one played, and goes so well with the story and the AI. very cool and i cant wait to see maps from you in the future

Map Design: 4
I like the map design, but im really all for natural maps so i took half off. I took the other half off because the rivers just looked dull and too fake.

Story/Instructions: 5
All around excellent. coulda been a story from the Greeks

Additional Comments:
The AI works well with this map. keep building! you should still map these symmetrical ones, but add a little more detail.
