Amir has crafted a well-thought out and easily executed city seige map. It was quite an enjoyable playing experience. However, minor points and problems brought down the overall playability of this map.
The balance of the map was slightly off. The forces provided were more than enough to break through the very flimsy outer defenses. For Jerusalem, it was very poorly defended. The only real opposition was from the keep, where my enemy decided to bunch up. It was there where I lost the most of my forces. even with my losses, which were heavy when I got to the keep, I still didn't lose at all. Balance comes in at average. I've seen worse, but I've seen better.
Creativity is average. There have been other maps made of Jerusalem, and yours stood out more than the rest, but there were few things about this map that sparked of creativity. City seiges have been done, and done, and done, and done.......
The only other issue I had with the map was the story. You had one.....kind of.......sort of......but it was a little on the short side, not much more than a description. I would have liked a little more background on why I had it in my head to sack the Holy City, but.....whatever.
Overall, the map's good points outweighed the bad. While the forces given to the player were large, significant resistance at the keep causes the player to re-think the general strategy used for sacking a city, and the city itself is quite lovely to look at. The final rating clocks in at a good 3.6: Above Average. Great job and keep designing!
