The Real Helm's Deep

Author File Description

Map Size: 400x400 (Large)
Difficulty: Normal
Minimap:
Hello all! I know what you are saying, "Not another Helm's Deep". I assure you, this one is like no other. I have worked on this map for a very long time and am glad to submit it so everyone can enjoy. I have play tested this map over and over again and the playability is perfect.

You all know the story behind the battle so I have no need to re-tell it. The men and women of Edoras leave for Helm's Deep, hoping for protection. Saruman's army of ten thousand Uruk-hai marches on towards Helm's Deep. It is an army bred for a single purpose: to destroy the world of men.

This is important for perfect gameplay: The riders of rohan are in the bottom left corner of the map, hacking at segments of wall so they can get out and win the battle. So keep an eye out for when they appear during the battle.

I think this is one of the best looking Helm's Deep maps I've seen. Although, I have seen better than mine, but this one is definitely worth having a go at.

UPDATE: I have updated the map:
- better castle design
- more attackers (in perfect formation)
- longer gameplay

UPDATE 2: I have updated it for the second time.
- no longer need to manually control the rohirrim to break out

I hope you all enjoy my version of Helm's Deep. All reviews and comments are welcome.

Dido OMG!!!Even I add more details in my maps :)
WWE_FAN_CRO Hmmmmmmmm not bad this map i will download ad rate
Lord Karpathea Well, I gave this map a go......and......it was a little disapointing. There were a couple problems, but overall gameplay was good.

Despite you comments, I have seen Helms Deep, more accurate and better-designed than this. For example, the terrain itself was incredibly bare. There is a reason there aren't many Crusader versions of Helms Deep. Terrain. Or rather, lack of variability in terrain. Secondly, the balance on this map was poor. The invasions were medium size at most. Look at the map done by talos_911. There were literally thousands of enemy soldiers attacking the keep. With this map, the orcs didn't even breach the outer walls.

Despite that, overall this map was a notch above the others out there. I'm a more experienced player, so maybe the forces weren't as unbalanced. A beginner or medium-skill player would probably have a hard time with this. Gameplay was well-executed, so high marks for playability. The story was also a little under-developed. Other than that, good map. A little rough, with need for improvment, but still above average. Keep designing!

Er-ok. When I saw your review I thought "UPDATE!!!" and that is what I'm doing now. Thankyou, though. Are there any tips as to how the map design could be better? And the castle design? I thought the castle design was pretty good. The causeway is made entirely of normal and lowered walls. Also, the terrain (in the movie) is bare anyway, with maybe a few small stones. By the way, Lord Kapathea, if you want more enemy troops, you shall get more in the update.
Lord Karpathea But the terrain, while bare, was not completely flat. Also, maybe a "drainpipe" behind the wall, ala river ford terrain. Add some raised terrain. Remember from the movie? There was a raised rack ledge where the Uruk leader rallied his troops from. I'm not saying you HAVE to add it, but you wanted suggestions. You are right, the castle itself was quite nice. The ramp effects were good. Once you update it, I'll play it again, and "re"-rate it.

Regards,

L_K

I know there was a drainpipe in the wall (in the movie) but how am I supposed to add a drainpipe in the wall?
Lord Karpathea Well......not an actual drainpipe per se, but rather a lowered stone wall (about one stairstep high) with river ford terrain. That's how they've been done before.

Any other tips to the castle design?
Yoda48 Playability: 5
This map was fun. ive played it over and over agin. The invasions were timed nicly but i think the horsemen came a bit to early

update-It was alot better you added more enemies and took out about 200 horsemen this made it alot harder and funner.

Balance: 4.5
It was kind of on the easy side. I would take about half the horsemen away and have more invasions.

Update- Wow alot better. took me two tries to beat.

Creativity: 4
Well i am not cutting you down that its a helms deep map. In all i think the castle was very creative. The ramp was real nice and the castle was alright

Update-Nothing changed here

Map Design: 4
This is what hurt your score. if it was me i would have made the map alot smaller cutting off all the extra space. You shpuld probably add some rocks and stuff to the field, maybe a few plants then and thier. You dpnt have to worry about the castle it was nice looking. Also you need to add a river in it or a little stream that leads through the wall.

Update- The map looks alot better now. I can see that u added some plants to the hills and that u added some rubble out on the field. The map looks real nice.

Story/Instructions: 4
what can i say you got 1

Update- Nothing changed here

Additional Comments:
Alot better good work

Thanks Yoda48. But there IS a stream running through the wall, and, in the movie, there are no plants or trees at the front of Helm's Deep; it is all bare. Anyway, I am working hard to update this map.
