------- || History || ---------

This map features a stronghold based on bernard's Cornwell Ahmednnughur in Sharpe's Stronghold. It is located in India. More is to be found in-game.

From wikipedia:
Gawilghur* (also Gawilgarh) is the name of well-fortified stronghold of the Maratha Empire. It was popularly considered impregnable at the time but was successfully assaulted by Arthur Wellesley later the 1st Duke of Wellington, on the 15 December 1803. After many casualties,the 94th Scottish Brigade (light company) invaded the fortress after 2 attempts at the main gate from British and Sepoy companies. Captain Campbell led the daring assault, the breaches of which still stand to day, untouched since 15 December 1803; when the fortress was returned to the Marathas' after making peace with the British. The fort,in which the great gun that killed five attackers with a single shot, still stands although now with graffiti running the lenghth of the barrel. The fortress itself,amazingly still stands all in-tact, and is a fine specimen of a Indian fort over the British campaign era (1799-1803). It is located in the vicinity of Melghat Tiger Reserve in Amravati District of Maharashtra.

In popular culture, the campaign to take Gawilghur forms the background of the novel Sharpe’s Fortress by Bernard Cornwell.Other books also published by this Author in the Indian campaign series include: Sharpe's Tiger, Sharpe's Triumph and Sharpe's Fortress.

------- || Stronghold features || ---------

Ahmednnughur features two separate keeps. The outer keep has high walls and two bastions from where defenders could shoot at invaders, in front of the first keep there is a big pond that narrows the attackers in a tight passage, or forces them to wander trought the water while being shot at.
The second keep is more fortified and lies behind the first one. Between both there is a large valley that forces any invading force to cross a very hard terrain while under heavy fire. The first keep is built with the sole purpose of delaying the attack on the main keep and usually making the enemy spend precious resources setting siege engines to take it down and then having to storm the second keep without them.

------- || general Tips and walktrough || ---------

Defending: Be sure to use those Mangonels, they're there for a reason!

Follow the batlle plan attached in the zip file.

1- Storm the gates of the first keep with catapults.
2- Breach the inner keep sending macemen to clear out the towers.
3- Send the macemen to destroy the good things around the mountais. That will have a big impact on the defender's morale.
4- Rally your army in the area southeast of the first keep.
5- Storm the eastern wall of the second keep with catapults and take out the towers with trebuchets.
6- Invade with everything you got in small teams so the pitch won't kill you outright.

------- || Cheap tricks || ---------

- If you are defending, a way to keep the enemy from clearing the first keep with macemen

Only after doing the whole map that I found out I have mixed the name of the stronghold Gawilgur with the fortified city of Ahmednughur, bear with me...

For some wild reason the game tells you you have won right at the start of the map. Just ignore him and the map works fine, I don't know why is this happening....

Thanks all for such nice compliments, I truly appreciate it!

I had a great time making this map particularly for loving Cornwell`s books, and the siege of Gawilghur is just amazing!

I look foward for your reviews. monkcrazy5, what do you mean by that? your input would be very welcome ;)

Dido, to make that image I take several screenshots and then use a graphics editor program such as photoshop to make the montage.

Thank you very much, it`s a pleasure.
