Nosferatu - the wrath of Malachi

Map Size: 300x300 (Medium)
Difficulty: Easy
It is a misty evening in the year of our lord 1912. The Pattersons, a poor but proud aristocratic family of the British nobility, and some of their closest friends, arrive at the castle Malachi, residence of a wealthy Romanian Count. It is only three days until the family’s eldest daughter, Rebecca, is to be wed to the count’s son, uniting the family with the rich heritage of the Malachi, hopefully restoring its glory.

The only person missing is you, the brother of the bride, who is on your way from Stockholm, where you have defended the Union Jack in the noble art of fencing in the Olympics. You are to arrive later during the evening.

Sir Patterson is disappointed when the Count himself doesn’t great the family at their arrival, but still he lets the servants show them all to their rooms, without complaining too loudly. It is not until later – when the doors are slammed shut and locked behind them, that he realizes his mistake, that they have become prisoners and are at the Count’s mercy…

AZ ViTrAzhAs A dynamic description, I must say :D Thank you for sharing your work with us..
Lord Tanthos Not a bad castle at all. Good design, although the plains are a bit "plain". Could use more sprucing up I think.

It's hard to command such a massive horde of troops, but it is enjoyable.

By the way, isn't that one picture next to the minimap the vampire from the Heroes of Might and Magic V loading screen?

Nosferatu - the wrath of Malachi

This Stronghold Crusader map section contains various types of invasions. As I noticed there aren’t many original invasions, where the player has to capture the castle and kill the lord and (or) eliminate all enemy troops. The Joint’s Nosferatu caught my eye and I thought I must try it.

Playability: 5
It seemed like this is just another simple lord kill invasion, but actually I’ve spent some time trying various tactics. I really enjoyed the castle layout, its plan, which gives the opportunity to siege the castle from different directions. A massive stroke trough the middle breaks the defense without any fuss, but later I tried to attack using the castles stairs and assaulting from East and West. Now I found that all the paths are covered in deadly pitch. The hill also slowed my army, when I tried to use rush tactics. All in all, it’s a great invasion, for practicing once’ skills.

Balance: 3.5
Well the balance might have been better. Maybe the win conditions “kill enemy lord and eliminate all enemy units” would solve the problem. It’s nice that you offered various troops, but sometimes it’s hard to pick the required ones. The castle was nice, the enemy troops were set well either, but you could have added killing pits, or caged war dogs, to achieve even a more thrilling fight.

Creativity: 5
The creativity goes up to 5s as you made a parody of a horror game and worked a lot with the castle design. Although I hadn’t played that game, it’s obvious that you revealed the idea well, I noticed the cemetery and the torture room, which are set in a cellar or something like that. The grey color of the troops shows that they are evil, too. The castle was designed neatly: the moat looked deep and scary, when the whole castle was on high plain. Various paths (which were covered with pitch) made the feeling that the fortress is misleading. And an amusing thing: there were so many crows, that once I thought that they look like bats. Thumbs up!

Map Design: 5
A pretty castle design was mixed with a detailed landscape. The oases looked quite natural; the hill was created using rocks, shrub, boulders, iron ore and other small details. The castle had also other details, which were set using the invisible stone trick. The pond in front of my huge army looked greatly, too. The whole landscape had various details, which made it look realistic. Overall, a very good map design. Bravo!

Story/Instructions: 5
The story was quite short but thrilling, the player realizes that he must destroy the evil Count. You've also added pictures, details, used the html codes achieve the green color. You've worked enough for a five.

Additional Comments:
It’s a truly enjoyable invasion, which gives an opportunity for everyone to practice the fighting skills or test the various troops, what they can really do.

Sincerely,

Ok this was the hardest map I have ever played. Are you sure you playtested it and won? I planned perfectly how to attack but got slaughtered. I got up to the keep and started fighting the enemy lord, but then the whole enemy army automatically recalled to the keep to help their king. I got surrounded and lost.

The map design was great. I see you put a little detail into it. The thing that lowered the score was the design at the bottom of the hill. Hard to explain. I don't know how to tell you but I think a 4.5 for the map design is good. Creativity was excellent. I loved the design of the castle. I put the gameplay onto the slowest and watched the crows, they were menacing looking in slow motion. Now, the balance was way off. It is impossible to win. I think you should have made it easier. Playability, this annoyed me. When I started, I had to sort out all my soldiers for 5 minutes. You should not place soldiers in a huge clump. I attacked and was bored because there wasn't much interesting to watch. My army didn't do much fighting, they just waited for the gatehouse to be demolished and when they entered the castle, they just got hammered by even more arrows. I couldn't do much so I made a run for the keep.

Well, it was a good map, but you should make the playability easier. No actually, I think it is me. I don't think I am good at sieging castles. I am only good at mapmaking!
