Before I start to review this per the category, I feel I must express the whole map in one word.

YYYEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Playability: How much fun is this map? Let me try to explain; you have a bad day at work, you come home and you play this little beauty, and the world seems a better place!! This is tremendous fun, an out-and-out bloodshed, carnage, slaughter... etc, etc. Nothing more than a massive pitched battle. Oh, how I loved to send forth 500 or so troops to battle. This is a perfectly playable map, and I reall can't beging to describe how simple but effective this is.

Balance: The map will last around five minutes maximum, and you can have a cracking time playing as either defender or attacker on a variety of difficulty levels. Playing as an attacker on hard is tough, as is defending. You could, in theory, try to run around the outside and kill the Lord quickly, but it doesn't matter, half the fun is in sending everyone to the walls of Romans.

Creativity: As I said above, a simple enough map with no pretentions, and the creativity mark of 5 goes purely for the battle recreated per the story. I think it unfair to review this in any other way. It doesn't have everything, as some maps do, but don't rule out what it is designed for.

Map Design: Basic landscape, a little undeveloped but a worthy 4 out of 5 for originality and the recreation of the fort is a great idea, especially the ditches - it all adds up to a great map.

Story/Instructions: Okay, so not a huge amount of detail here, and no zip document to accompany the download, but as i'm on a wave, the story/description is fine. You can't really elaborate on this any more without going into historical detail. What is here is sufficient.

In summary, an essential map in my humble opinion that warrants a download. Spectacular and fun, it will be staying on my hard drive along with a few others I just can't get rid of!!! Marvellous!!!!

First off this guys Moniker is Hilarious, Monkey Smuggler! With that said this is also an absolutely fantastic map. Previously and accurately reviewed by Sulis, I just want to bring it to everyone’s attention once more. It would be a shame for this one to be forgotten.

Playability 5/5 absolutely perfect, the attacking force is massive. The site of the huge barbarian horde bearing down on your well trained and organized Roman Legions is positively sweat inducing. This is a fantastic battle; it took a couple of tries for me to even beat this on normal and than only with a loss of 63% of my forces. Forget about playing on hard. The AI goes straight for the kill. If your troops can’t hold the line it is all over in a matter of minutes. This is simply awesome work!

Balance 5/5 Perfect again in this category. The balance between the Barbarian Horde and the Roman Legion is dead on. This map is just so well put together as far as the logistics. It is one of the best siege maps I think I have ever played. The game moves fast and you can play it several times in less than 30 minutes. This adds greatly to the maps replay value. The Holy Grail of map-making that we all seek!

Creativity 5/5 this is such a great idea that it still kicks A** after all this time. The Roman theme really lends itself well to the Stronghold configuration. I like the inverted earth defenses. Instead of raised ramparts it really is ditch work. The entire map is laid out on level 1 terrain. This gives the map a very different look in its mini map appearance then what you are accustomed to. Great Work!

Map Design 4/5 the surrounding terrain is somewhat bland and definitely cries out for some more effort. The actual camp looks great and even after so long is just still very appealing to the eye IMO.

Story/Instructions 4/5 although brief in length the storyline really sets the tone and pace of this map perfectly. Great stuff!

In Short-This is an essential download. A real challenge that will leave you cursing in the woes of defeat or reveling in the sweetness of hard one victory. Truly this map is one of the best of Stronghold. Oh Monkey Smuggler Where hath thou gone to?

Wow this map was fun! It was extremely playable on account of the huge numbers of people invovlved. Men flow like water on a sandcastle. It really was a lot of fun. Althogh the map was quite easy, the scale of it explained this. It is very hard to make a map which is well balanced and on a very grand scale. I therefore give the balance a well deserved 5. The map is not enormously creative, however not many people dare to take on the building of a battlefield map. The map design was fairly plain, with a few nice touches. The story however did not the contribute to the map much. Overall worth the high place in the best of stronghold. Well done for creating such a fun map!
