Greeting fellow strongholders,
We are proud to present our latest Crusader map.
This map was originally started by Lan al Malkier, but due to school work he was unable to finish it. Now that the holidays came we were both able to work on it and perfect it.
This was one of the most difficult projects we have ever undertaken mainly because the castle had no floor plans throughout the whole Internet. We needed to use Google earth for terrain pictures and, of course, the castle design. Another hurdle was that the castle, after the crusaders abandoned it, has been enlarged by the Mamluks several times so we needed to cut parts of it. But all in all we are very proud of what came out and hope you find it as enjoyable as we did.
This map is one of the hardest we have made so please don’t criticize it after one try. Instead refer to the walkthrough for additional help.
Krak de Montreal has just one extra thing. Because most historical maps get lower scores for creativity and/or story/instruction because the articles aren’t original, we constructed our story in a different way. It explains all the major events and facts of that time, but the story is from the view of an Arabian soldier. So it should be really interesting to read.
Wow, another great map from one of the best:) dl-ing now...

I'm very sorry, but I can't review as I couldn't finish it. I see that it is a very tactical siege, not meant for a noob. Me... only good at mapmaking, not too good at siegeing as I get scared. lol. I always seem to lose too many troops as I get close to the walls.
The map design was confusing... it made the castle look rough and ruined. I think the castle was a great design but the terrain made it look otherwise. I also read the story... very interesting, you wrote the whole thing?
Anyway, sorry I couldn't review. I've also been playing other games so I forgot to give you some feedback. I think I'm going to the movies in a couple days and I might buy Stronghold 1 so I can play some of your S1 maps because I promised you I would a few months ago, never got round to it.

No problem mate I understand you. It's really a very tough castle and I haven't even beaten it completely. Came close to it though and made a mistake and I was too upset to try again. However it is beatable, but requires steel nerves.
About the terrain. Well there wasn't much of a choise. As I looked down the castle from google earth I saw the same thing and this also caught my eye, unfortunately I could not find a way to go around it without harming the historical landscape.
Anyway thanks for playing it. In the past few months you have been a big support to our projects and I hope I can return the favour some day.
A team map possibly or rivew. :D
Thanks a lot mate.

Hmm... Your terrain looks very strange. All I have to comment on it.
(And yes, I cannot beat this map.)
I'm working on using a very time consiming trick to beat this map - using walls as shields nd getting archers behind them to shoot off all the enemy. Takes for EVER!

Accomplished the defeat of the lord. :P Was surprisingly easy, but I'm afraid to say that the map was VERY boring. (Got it at 2nd try at the map) The castle was interestingly designed, the landscape was quite... radical, but the gameplay greatly suffered lots of waiting.
Difficult, but a very boring castle to siege. Only one strategy could work, and it was shooting down archers one by one by hiding my archers behind walls. Took the better part of 4 hours to complete, at game speed 90 and me checkng only every 10 minutes.
Once enough archers were killed, I sent in assassins and finished the lord off. A simple strategy.
I advise asking otehr people to test this map before you submit it, and be sure that they all used different strategies.
