Like my other maps, this castle is entirely my own making (not based on any existing castle), but the idea came from a phrase General Tacitus is supposed to have uttered whilst conquering Britania for Rome: "If the enemy has a position of great strength, ensure he stays there". Well, I figured that can work in both directions.....

HINTS (SPOILER FOLLOWS):
Don't use archers at all for this one, concentrate on crossbowmen to clear the initial walls, then take them down with Pikemen or Swordsmen. Try to save a few engineers to construct trebuches for taking down the main castle gatehouse, and use whatever crossbowmen you have remaining to battle the enemy crossbowmen on the towers. Depending how it's going, either keep the swordsmen in reserve until all defenders have been killed, or send them in under covering fire. If you have pikemen they can be usefull in taking down the gatehouse under fire because they last reasonably well against crossbow fire. After the gatehouse is down try to break through the keep's cladding and kill the lord of the castle!
