Hello, my name is Ankiset (fictional name) and im new to this comunity and new to the stronghold game, soo im a novice mapmaker, i would really apreciate some coments and plz do try to play it.
im a tolkien fan and this map reincarnates the siege of the dark tower of Dol Guldur in the mirkwood forest *greenwood*, i couldt find any visual help to build it soo i made it out of my head, i hope you like the desing, this is my first try making siege maps wich i love very very much.
Okay, reviewed this as the author is keen for some feedback!
Playability: Bearing in mind that this is the author's first map submission to the forum, this is a very, very good attempt!! I had great fun with this from the very start, because you are in the thick of the action right from the moment the game launches. In some ways this is okay, but it would have been a little better if the troops had chance to think about what to do. Moving the signpost to a 'neutral' part of the map would probably do the trick, unless the author intended a battle right from the word go. Still, a very good attempt.
Balance: As a defender on very hard (to allow the enemy to have as many troops as possible), this plays very well and whilst it isn't too hard to win here, it still poses enough of a challenge to get you moving troops around the castle walls. As an attacker, you can have good fun on a multitude of settings but you have to act quickly. Again, a very good effort.
Creativity: I'm not up to speed with the works of Tolkien, however this is a very good interpretation of a fantasy work. The map design and castle are clearly not based on anything other than this, but the idea works fine.
Map Design: Small, but good use of the terrain tools and the castle isn't bad looking. The AI had a bit of a problem as they chose to attack along one route as I defended, which weaved a little and thus offered the archers and crossbowmen plenty of time to shoot away at them, weakening their health and leaving them almost dead by the time they reached their destination. Not a fault of the designer, though.
Story/Instructions: Another good attempt at providing a readable introduction to the map.
In summary, and bearing in mind that this is the first siege submission by this author, it's an overall success I feel and a great attempt at a siege. Well done, Lord Ankiset!
