Your king has asked you to defeat the pig's army and then take the city of silverfall.it begins with a huge battle (zoom out!)...then you will have to attack the city and reach the castle. This map has some nice architectural ideas (check those stairs!) and is funny to play. After the battle, what will you have left to take Silverfall's castle?
Considering this is one of the earliest maps submitted to the site when Heavengames supported Stronghold, this map is simply stunning! You have to face a HUGE invasion of troops initially that is nothing short of impressive in terms of scale and adds something rather special to this map. Not just a standard siege, you will have to consider which troop combination to plum for if you are to have a fighting chance of succeeding. A quite long map to play, there is a certain path (or paths?) to the keep and is a classic example of how using terrain effectively forces you to take distinct routes to the enemy lord. Bags of replayability and a smooth game from start to finish ensures this deserves top marks. Extremely addictive to boot.
Almost perfect. This should be an interesting test of tactics for most people and will be quite difficult for the average player. Each time I played I had a small handful of troops remaining. I have tried to play with the troops provided initially, but succumbed to some rather embarrassing losses! I opted for crossbowmen and pikemen only in the end, and this combination seems to work. This is a long, hard fight through the city with no real respite save for a few areas of neutral ground inside the castle/city walls. Quality work though, and this map really is as fresh now as it was when it was first submitted.
Considering this is an old map, the author has managed to design something rather special. I really enjoyed the initial invasion of troops and the scale of the city is something to behold. Map design, and in particular the clever use of stairs and walls combined with fantastic terrain modelling, is superb. I really can't praise this enough.
Map Design: 5/5
This is quality map design. Beautifully made, with lots of nice little tricks. I have spent many hours mulling over the map, taking in every little detail the author has offered. It's hard not to be impressed with a castle design such as this. The landscape is extremely effective and shows clever use of the terrain tools. Excellent work.
To round off the map you have a great little introduction, primarily in the page before the game launches. A good effort here too that sets the scene for the battle that commences afterwards.
IN SUMMARY: I'm surprised that this hasn't been reviewed before. It's a bit of a gem and a map that you could say was ahead of it's time. Download this map and i'm sure you'll see what I mean!
