It is nearly three years since William the Conqueror landed near Pevensey and the Norman invasion changed the way of life for many native Anglo Saxons in the Southern Uplands of England. Many motte and bailey castles have been built in England and Wales, some are now undergoing further expansion and stone is being used to create new strongholds with which to launch raids into neighbouring counties and to provide a safe place for those charged with ruling these lands.
William has appointed you Lord of an area affectionately known as Tontine's Chair, a name given to an outcrop of rock in a bend of a river. The name derives from folklore and the story refers to the outcrop as a great throne for a once great king. The area is perfect to establish a great stone castle and to develop and maintain an economy. Naturally defensive, with plenty of raw materials and huge areas of fertile land, you are to oversee the construction here and rule the people with a firm but fair hand. The area has the potential to allow one of the great Norman castles to be built that will be referred to throughout history: this is William's request. This will be a Norman set of power.
