Land of Blood - Part Two - Snake Town (V1.2)

The Map: Quite big, with lots of activity such as animals, a battle already starting etc.

Author's Notes: I made some changes to this map, (see below) so it should be more difficult. I also updated the Word doc, which is on the download.

You are SEVERELY disadvantaged (economically) in this map.

Story: Continues from 'The Rat's Demise'. Story on map.

Hints and Tips:
None really, but there are a few tips on a Word doc so, take a look at it.

Updates and Changes: (V 1.1)
1) Changed Story
2) Removed some enemy archers
3) Removed some deer
4) Added bears around prison
5) Added more troops to your arsenal
6) Changed amount of troops at the initial battle on the bridge
7) Fixed any problems relating to the map, enemy and friendly units etc

1) Added enemy units
2) Weakened your economy
3) Removed some friendly units
4) Added invasions and events
5) Added an objective

You'll need to think hard, very hard on this one (I hope), and it might take you a while to complete.

This map is not impossible at all. I managed to kill the enemy lord even on 'very hard'.
The reason for this is that your keep and king is on the map and even with a small economy I suceed to bring some leather armors and maces to make macemen and kill the enemy lord.
What I don't like is that you didn't set any events. If you like to have WAR you could at least insert 'tree fungus', don't you think?
To make the map harder you could insert some small invasions or the best, a time limit
In rest...keep going with mapmaking!

If it's not that hard then I'll change the difficulty to 'Hard'.

When I was testing my map (at this stage I did have things like tree fungus etc), but the problem was here: I set the the tree fungus for 4 months, but the 'event' kept on going and killing the trees, like there was no limit to how long the 'event' can keep going.

I also though about adding a signpost for some invasions, but the signpost just didn't look good or fit anywhere on the map (unless you coould recommend a spot).

For the first 5/6 downloads there were some problems, such as the fords not connecting to their islands. I changed that as well as the amount of enemy archers on the Snake's walls. In each tower I think there were about 7 archers and 3/4 crossbowmen. It was too many to successfully siege the castle.

Oh and one more thing, whenever I set the 'Win Timer' it would never appear on the map. That's why I never added it. Otherwise, if things like events and Win Timers would just go my way I would have added them.

I played this map on each difficut level twice. I enjoyed this mab but sometime it given me the impression that i'm almost ready to kill the lord and the map is too short. In rest, good playability.

Balance 3
Not too bad... At beggining, the troops are quite balanced. Indeed, first it took some time to complete the map. Because you let the map to have trebuchets, I managed to destroy the towers and then to kill the archers and crossbows with cows. Then invade with 40 macemen and you surely win. It's just easy...

Creativity 4
I like the prison, that little town down to the snake's castle and the troops position at the beginning, but the Creativity doesn't deserve a 5

Map design 3.5
The map design isn't very special but it has some unique things like the bridge over the river or the prison across the ford.

Story/Instructions 3.5
Sorry about this but the instructions are not enough detalied and I think you knew it.

Additional Comments:
Though the story/instructions are not good enough, I enjoyed this map.

peter2008 After "The Rat's Demise" this is a map highly original in landscaping, outline of settlements and concept. Congrats.
Especially I enjoyed the beginning. A fight for the crucial bridge up and running and some invasions and bandits coming soon. While walls etc. aren't available. Would my troops melt away by the time? Seldom I feel forced to implement a Fear Factor +2 that early. And for my impression it took a really big effort to mass a troop for the attack on the Snake.
So your main intentions worked well. :)
Let me list two hints for further improvements.
Of course landscaping deserves that you work finer. Look at other maps, those by Sulis or the WL_Ds are usually recommended. Many others have their own charme, like those by Fintrollx or Knightly Maps.
Second, the course of a mission needs more thinking through to be coherent.
There occurs a tree fungus - why so early? You could set a condition for the event such as 200 wood stockpiled.
There is an economic goal (on normal 45 swords with one(1), later two(2) iron mine(s) only and without any trading possibility - why sooo high? Imagine the amount of 90 swords on very hard. I refused to meet it there.
The invasions end, although the Snake comes under attack (trebs) - just why? Here suffers the mission's thrill.
