IT IS RUDE TO NOT READ THIS!
STORY:
Since you were young you've been obsessed with fire. You prefer your bread burned, your meat very well burned and you've also lost count of how many times you've burned your house.
Your name? Sir Ilik Flamealot! After being knighted by the king for your outstanding discovery of the braziers, fire ballista and insane engineers with smoking, burning, flaming pots from hell, you were given an estate in the Charred Forest.
Several years have passed comfortably until one day an old friend of yours, Sir Igot Burndalot suddenly arrives at your door clad with bright armor and wielding shiny blades! You are shocked that one of your closest friends is now trying to kill you.
In fact, this is the same friend that invited you to his marriage a couple years ago, during which you both had a wonderful time while you played your very funny joke by replacing their wedding cake with a Mentos® + Coke® volcano (I mean you didn't want to make a real oil/pitch volcano cause that would cause way too much excitement). You do not understand why he has so much enmity towards you especially since by the time you left his wedding your beloved friend was crying tears of happiness!
You arrive at the conclusion that the enemy at your door cannot be your real friend, Sir Burndalot. He must be an impostor!
With your heart on fire and your temper ablaze you promise your good ol' friend that you shall burn this outrageous impostor to the ground! Then you realized that all you really learned to do is....well...burn stuff.
You order your peasants to pick up their torches, light their arrows, and charge! I meant BURRRNNNNNNN!!!!!
Advice:
This map is not meant for people that are firephobic. If you cannot handle the heat and hate hot things in general then DO NOT DOWNLOAD!
Now, if you are a flaming maniac with 'Sizzling' as your middle name and 'Burnt' as your last name then you came to the right place.
Master this map til the end and you shall be re-christened as Sir Ilik Flamealot!
And also a surprise from your childhood awaits you if you can burn your way to the final invasion.
Helpful hints:
Various bonuses are hidden and only triggered when certain conditions are met.

Fire, consuming and devastating possibly everything ... The first invasion brings dangerous slaves, the second numerous Arabian swords who work themselves into my stonework. (There is no stone quarry on the map.) Wether the future invasions would bring them in deadly combination? All wood cutter huts, farms and ditches torched, the wall breached and an endless chain of well-armoured men heading to the keep while few archers above would helplessly line the street?
The whole proves different, busy enough. The pauses between the invasions must be used for a determined build-up. The landscape looks like a jungle, full of trees, som let's make the best of it. At the end of the long game (40 years) I had deforested more than three quarters of the palms. In spite of the limitedness of the stronghold I could occupy some 90 people. And it became one struggle to get away the pitch which isn't a trding good in this mission.
The end of the song: charred enemies. Had about 500 archers (plus new towers plus mangonels harvesting among the masses). Strengthend by a "+ 5" attack bonus they could bring down the melee units not yet massacred but damaged by pitch and wooden traps. Ranged invaders are too few, siege engines lack at all.
The map could be a contest entry accompanying the current (er, permanent) poll, Which is you favourite trap?
As for bonuses: received a Travelling Fair, a Jester (is this the surprise from my childhood??) and a reinforcement of 20 archers. |

I played the Map and won the first time. Its not very hard :P, because you could build up a lot of towers with blides on it in front of the waymarker so that you crush down any enemy units[Edited on 12/28/08 @ 08:08 AM]

Playability: 3
At beggining I enjoyed so much this map... However Little by little with the time, the map becomes boring. And did you playtested the map? You wouldn't have the patience to play so much this scenario.
Balance: 3
Here you could put some more challenge. The scenatio is quite easy. The A. swordsmen and the E. Swordsmen doesn't damage you so bad, especialy if they are alone and few. I've seen that you tried some combination of troops but... too few. I'm sure that increasing the number of troops should prove a bigger challenge.
Creativity: 4
Excelent! I think the creativity is the best category from your scenario. You must have some imagination for such fun story, for the little forest from your map and also for the bonuses. Yea... the bonuses... I felt so good when I got them! Well done!
Map Design: 3.5
Well... the map design isn't very special. The map is small and you fill it all with trees. The only good thing is the castle. It has an interesting design.
Story/Instructions: 3.5
A short story about the braveness of a man called Flamealot who become enemy with Sir Burnalot. A bit basic too. Also the words "Several years have passed comfortably" means that in several years didn't happen anything? I don't think so. The story deserves more but in rest is good.
Additional comments:
Keep going! you'll be a good mapmaker.

Well i agree that the actual invasion is a long one, to be enjoyed casually, and...em...not meant for one sitting.
I do have a couple of things i need to address. The story was something that i made up on the spot and completely for humor. Therefore there is no point in adding to it. Also as for the scenery i wanted an environment with ONLY plantations, that is 100% burnable. I hope people don't mistake environments that needs to have everything to become a good one |

Hello Noma,
I liked the story. There's no problem in it but be aware that a short fun story will not be able to receive a 4.5 or 5. An excelent story must be detalied, fun but also understandable. Your story is far to be excelent.
And about the map design - Indeed the environments don't need to have everything to become a good one. Do you really think that only the massive forests can burn? A burnable place can be also pure weed or desert scrubs.
I hope that my review don't looks unfair to you.[Edited on 01/04/09 @ 06:38 AM]
