Mountain Landscape

Author File Description
File Details
Map Size: 400x400 (Large)
Number of Players: 8
Balance: Unbalanced
Difficulty: Normal
Made with version: 1.1
This is my first submitted map. It is part of a "series" containing 4 maps.
The Minimap shows version 1.1, but version 1.0 is still enclosed in the download file.

This map is made for 8 players, but of course, you can play with less.
As you see in the Minimap, there is a river crossing some hilly terrain with plenty of resources, so you might raise an invincible castle here!
Of course, you may disagree here, but I think it's a really nice map and I personally really like it. Especially for making a great castle and collect some wealth, it's the (almost) perfect map.

For example, I've got a game where I own about 950 people, 1170 soldiers, have 25 millions of gold and (with some ...dozens of... killing pits) as much buildings as one can build at the moment. I'm in the year 2010 =)

The ZIP file contains the map files "Mountain Landscape” 1,0 and 1,1 (writing it with a point “.” will effect that you are not able to open it), overview pictures and 2 text files (1 editor; 1 Microsoft word) with some more details about the map, a short story and a translation of the describing text in the map.

When downloading the file you may notice that the ingame short-description is written in German.
This is an international community, so I write my texts in English, but I made the map before discovering this site and I hope you may excuse this bit of identification as a native German-speaker, but I have put the translation into the text files.

I hope you will like my map and maybe comment and rate it, so have fun playing it!
I also would like to receive some tips, if you think that there is something, which could be done better. If possible without changing the whole map, I will make a few changes to it and update the download file to even improve its gameplay.

Changes to Version 1.1:
Map has become much more detailed and some of the resources have been replaced/deleted to make it not that easy for human Players to “drown in iron” (see peter2008’s comment) - but, on version 1.0, drowning in STONE is much easier than in iron, I think. ;-)
Furthermore, some disturbing rocks have been removed/replaced; as result, the map looks nicer and a better map balance has been achieved (although it is an “unbalanced” map, it’s important to give every Player some possibilities for beating the enemies).

Edit 03-02-2009: I have cleared something with the file names.

Edit 03-08-2009: New file version added.

peter2008 Ersaufen in Eisen. :)

Drowning in iron.
For human players here's paradise. What about 100 iron mines - allowing 200 armourer workshops ... Made gold so much I could buy dozens of xbows.
Unfortunately the map does not work well for AIs. Too often they cannot expand and place their buildings. E.g., Saladin in the north-east always lacked some hovels. Either trees and rocks block or the greenery is too close and neighbours set up their farms there.
Would like to play this creation online.

Hmm, I think, you're right. Saladin and his "fight" against some rocks seem familiar to me (experience in some long ago rush-games on that map), I'll have to improve this.

Thanks for the comment, being glad that you would like this map for playing online!

@all downloaders: Sorry for double-posting, but please take you some time to write a review and rate my map, or at least give me some feedback via comments.
Especially the updated version of the map hasn't been commented at all yet so I don't know whether the changes were positive or not.

Thanks in advance!

hoping you enjoy this map

Lord Klorkhlop Hello,
This is a very good skirmish map you have made, but I would reccomend you to use "desert shrub" tool, like on the oasis and some cactus on the desert.

EDIT: Sorry it was only for version 1.0
