The land beyond the river has always been a place of fear. If not for necessity, we would no venture out there. But our Lord has proclaimed we must go and settle the forest. He has taken some of the troops and even moved the keep out there. We do not know what lies beyond the river, but we shall soon find out...

This is my first map, so comments would be greatly appreciated. But, it is my first, so don't be too mean.

Hi AILD22,
thank you for your first map.
When I played it I experienced the biggest explosion of buildings I've ever seen.
Had relocated the granary to the middle, green part of the country, around it a dozen apple orchards and wood cutter's huts as well as some weapons workshops. Then, instead of the first invasion - a puff and all were gone. very interesting that the storage buildings remained.
There is no sign post on the map. Please add one or more and update the file. :)
The concept will be promising to play then. |

same problem for me, and the version listed should be 1.2, not 1. |

How can you tell what version it was made with? Why can it not have been made with version 1? |

Well since I have version 1.2 I assume it must be 1.2 not 1 because it worked for me. In my experiences with other games a patch is incompatible with a different patch so if it was 1 it would not work for me. |

Now, here are my impressions.
Help, the Lord has put a risk on moving on the other side. Feels naked there compared with the nice fortress behind. Cultivating the new land is difficult. Learned to place one wood cutter's hut next to each tree I wanted to be removed. Otherwise, many trees will die early and block farms or walls. Building up an army is the other task. The forces shouls be huge for the weapons are not advanced, besides maces. But you have to buy iron.
So will it be possible to set up a new castle before the first invasion attacks? On very hard, I first made a wrong decision, I sent out hunters. The would not come back. The file's download name "beast mode" holds true: wolves are a pain. Second, I placed apple orchards a lot, and had happy tax income. Blocked cheese consumption and sold every piece.
Meanwhile I had also realised that there is no stones and iron on the map that one could mine, but that some ruins of older settlements can prove useful.
The first invasion will do some damage outside the walls. Then, time is very long. There is almost nothing new to do. The middle land is pretty cleared now, and I had a constant struggle against a full granary.
After the second invasion, I expanded all the storage buildings to achieve the economic targets. When all were fulfilled, I awaited the troops of the Wolf.
Never before I have thrashed them so well. What else could I do with 420 archers and 220 macemen than overrun the enemy?

Overrunning the troops of the Wolf:

Strong points: Tricky beginning being exposed.
Good and coherent restrictions of buildings, weapons and units types and trading.
Need to buy expensive raw materials or maces.
Weaker units against stronger soldiers of the invasions.
Nice ruined wooden walls and custom defences.
3 signposts.
Weak points: the invasions are too weak. With moat digging allowed one could simply shoot them.
Time between the invasions is too long. I felt bored on very hard.
No events keeping me busy.
Three Lords attack, but there is only one lose message, by the Wolf.
Landscape is just flat in the relevant parts of the map and little modelled. Place trees last next time or they will die soon in game.
Your dedication to the game I could clearly feel. Keep up mapmaking! [Edited on 03/25/09 @ 08:38 PM]

Just to clarify for anyone. A map made in version 1 will play ok in version 1.1 or 1.2
So maybe AILD22 did use version 1.
Did you make the map in version 1, AILD22 ?
(If you are not sure try looking here
