Alex the not-so-Great is in trouble again!
As Alex prepared to leave, he got a strange feeling that something was missing. He had double-checked everything several times. Food, drink, sword, matches, compass ... Despite his strange feeling, he left anyway.
As they travelled with minimum supplies, he rationed their food very strictly. His men protested loudly when he told them there would be no beer until they reach the Oasis of Alaban.
When they arrived, his people were very happy anticipating their well-deserved double ration of beer that they had not had for many days. Alex discovered that all their barrels contained water. He had forgotten the beer at home! There was no way of hiding this from his troops, who became furious and beat up Alex pretty badly. Most of his troops left to search for beer.
When Alex woke up after the healer had patched him up, he was told that most of his troops had been captured. His remaining troops in camp refused to continue without their buddies and beer. Alex lay in bed and pondered his situation ...

First of all, there is one simple and very important rule of this game: Don't move Alex (your red Lord). As the story tells, he is too sick and should preferrably stay in bed resting. However, he is too anxious about
his captured troops, so he is pacing back and forth in the camp. Just don't move him anywhere.

This is a puzzling game with a 'win goal' that is very simple to describe, but can be really baffling to achieve (I hope!). There will be no huge battles, but a few skirmish fights. There will be no panic moments with a
strong enemy running after you. After all, it is an economic mission. Thoughtful and carefully planned guerilla warfare is the best (only?) way to success.

It is a fairly long game, but not to the extreme. If you know (or can figure out) the key strategic moves, you can probably finish it in less than an hour. However, figuring out the strategy might tickle your mind for several days ...

Help Alex free his troops and produce some beer for his thirsty heroes.

Win: 60% drinking ale
Lose: Lord killed
Time: No time constraint. Play as long as you want.

Limitations: You cannot hire new troops or build siege equipment. And all your archers lost their arrows and are degraded to be engineers!

Rule: Don't move Alex. Just let him walk back and forth near the campfire at all times.

Now, start the game, sit back and relax. Put yourself into Alex's situation and help him plan how to make beer and have a party for his troops.

All farming area is presently occupied by enemy farms.

Thanks to Peter2008 for discovering severe and spoiling bugs.

peter2008 Economic missions seem to have a hard stand.
This one is peppered with a humorous story and tricky fighting. Not finished yet, trying to achieve something really new to me. :)

Desperate Alex players,

I have now updated this file. There was a small bug that allowed the player to place a hops farm northeast of the keep. My intention is that the only farming area is inside or north of the enemy village. If you happen to find any other place for a hops farm, let me know and please don't use it.

lord dredde I have instant win occur with this, even in map editor,I'd say this is a pretty big bug.

I barely have enough time to veiw the map when i play.

Aaaaarrrgghhhh ....

Another Crusader bug I haven't seen before!
I have (once again) updated the game, so please download the latest and greatest (actually WORKING!) version of the game.

Many thanks Lord Dredde for pointing out this disastrous bug.

Happy playing everyone (without being annoyed by bugs...)
lord dredde Hi qtlilkeg, thanks for the reply, glad i could help out.I've been having trouble with a few maps i've been working on for ages, for example i adjust an invasion or the repeat time for an event etc then play after saving the game crashes,so i change events to before then the game plays fine 1 invasion 223-with cats/trebs increase the amount, game crashes.Reduce amount of weapons to say 4cats 3 trebs etc it plays just fine,i think the boolean/map thread becomes confused and cant read the map, gets more annoying when trying to adjust'working' maps.I'll download your updated version and let you know how it goes.

Lord Dredde
riderwinz This game certainly needs a lot of pondering while playing and gave me many enjoyable hours.
At first it seems impossible, but persevere.
Its fun luring the swordsmen from the N.E & also those guarding the prisoners to follow your slingers.

It was annoying that killing the enemy king didn't kill all his troops, but I guess that would have been too easy.
The priests also stop blessing after a while, so running out of food requires a sneaky strategy. I also needed walls to protect my attacks.

Sometime I might post my strategy, which included playing on the slowest speed & using the pause frequently. I used 2 churches immediately, as 1 priest goes off to bless your woodcutter.

Note that only 1 barrel of ale & an alehouse is needed (tip: build your alehouse before you run out of money).

Thank you qtlilkeg for a very satisfying 5 star game!
