ACT Three – Rebels

This is a sequel of Act Two: Devil’s Grasp

STORY

This time you are a young captain in charge of a small band of skilled mercenaries. Your career started as a soldier in the rebels’ army, and having lost your parents to war when you were young you had no choice but fight to earn a living. You learned too soon that life wasn’t fair, and two years after the rebellion started the main rebel army was already close on the verge of annihilation. The king issued for the capture and execution of all rebels, and you, in the fear of death, fled with a few companions before the king’s troops rounded everyone up. Hungry from running, and days without proper rest, you are under constant threat of being discovered. The villages you visited, concerned for their own safety, refused to help rebels no matter how many you visited. Being close to starvation, you and your band of men finally resorted to violence and plundered what you needed.

Now a few years have passed and you and your band of men are working as mercenaries. A second rebellion was started to which you pay little attention, and when it comes to money you do not discriminate whether you offer your services to the king or the rebels.

You began making a name for yourself and soon ambassadors from both the king and rebels approached you, demanding you join them permanently. Torn between the decisions you do not know which side to choose. Personally you believe that to follow the king will lead to a greater chance of survival; you also fear the king’s wrath if you declined. However, you cannot find it in yourself to force your men to follow a dictator that took the lives of the family and friends of your men. One thing was clear to you, whichever side you choose you need to start preparing weapons, and preferably as soon as possible, before the king lose patience and wipe you off the face of earth.

MISSION GOALS

Gather the required weapons and resources – before 1550

Survive the king’s onslaught – after 1550

Notes: The mission objective will CHANGE after year 1550. If you have not gathered the required resources by 1560 then you will NEED to survive the remaining assaults. You will NOT be able to win if you manage to gather the required resources past 1550.

LOSING CONDITIONS

Losing the lord

Obtain either max good (+5) or max cruelty (-5)

HINTS/TIPS

The roads/hills are narrow, which means it is perfect for pitch and traps.

Playing with fear factor is risky! If you start losing population really quickly your fear factors will increase. Note that you’ll lose if you obtain max cruel or good.

A little heads up: thy shall be burned! AKA build some water pots

peter2008 This mission looks and reads exciting. Everybody should try and enjoy the map, which is tricky by the landscape and fair by the measures it gives to the player.

The shaping of the landscape convinced me almost completely. Greenery is done nicely, the clusters of iron and pitch don't look too bad in-game. Perhaps too much trees at the edges in the beginning.

A medium-sized map with ... 4! signposts ... along a line that cuts the map into two halfs. Very original. With dunes reaching close to the keep area you have a puzzling time to place buildings. Prospective thinking is needed (experience with the ways different workers can go helps). Important: place 3 stockpile parts for all the resources delivered! In the long run, not only the stone quarries will be occupied but also the far corners outside the exclusion zones. Cathedral is available, lol.

One also has to arrange some defence points in the difficult entrance area. (May I hint to the trick "placing towers on dunes".) Bandits will seek their chance and some preliminary invasions will arrive. Both groups badly harvest away the workers in the hollow ways.

Power playing, I could win the map in May 1532, with 114 pop and +8 ale coverage. Had a great time filling almost every tile in the corner of the keep. Was happy not to face the later invasions and events. (Saw them in the editor after the game - that's good enough for imagination.)

Some suggestions to improve the map.
There should be more trading restrictions. While it's already very useful to disable bread trading, the weapons under request could be disabled, too, to make their processing more important. I bought about 20 bows. Sold metal armour in return.
In the description, you speak about good and bad things. However, they do be restricted. Oops?
You may change the word "two" into "three" in the title of the description.

Many thanks for another great map!

Lord_of_Hell A preety map seen from the mini-map. The design looks great, and the resources are distributed nicely :) Gonna try this as well
