UPDATED-several very minor bugs fixed.
The Marcomannic wars were a series of wars fought between 166 and 180 AD.fought by Rome against her enemies.
During the reign of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius, the Romans fought against the allied Germanic tribes who were living along the east bank of the Danube river, this five map campaign sees you play as a young Roman noble(map one- a place your own keep),to being a Roman general Marcus Maximus facing the Germanic Hordes
I have added a short story to the file.

Hi Monkcrazy5.
Yes it is a pretty good scenario as you experience the missions as two different characters. Also while researching online,i found most of the information to be much the same, there were references to two of my favourite films that portray Romes' Epic struggle against the various tribes and they are 'the fall of the Roman empire'(1964) and 'Gladiator' (2000).I have also seen many 'docu-dramas on the Roman empire and have a lot of subject material for future maps.Regarding the actual missions i have tried to represent the various tribes etc.I havent uploaded any maps that show the wars as i want to avoid copyright, but wikipedia has a few.
regards

Lord Dredde,
your map projects always bring special concepts. The landsacpe I also like a lot. Interesting to be led back into the Roman- Germanian times.
Have played the first two missions so far: both eco-invasions which claim wide areas of the maps.
In the first one, a Place-Your-Own-Keep scenario, you need all the farm land you can get. Some basic choices you have. Keep and granary on the same plateau or split? Wheat or hops farms in a precious spot? The repeated bad events are a real pain (had to rebuild many farms).
Mission two should get a story. A cede brings you in command of a giant settlement in a fertile area. Which city did the Romans develop here? Rebuilding the villages is fun and necessary. Large invasions come to raid the buildings.
My only problem with both maps were the markedly high requests, above all that of iron. It takes centuries to meet them, even with both high game speed and negative fear factor. This aspect you could retune so that more players will enjoy the missions. |

Hello peter 2008,as always it is good to hear your feedack, especially on this challenging campaign.Regarding on accquiring the necessary goods(i did consider changing the pre-requisites during mission scripting) ,the Roman war machine used a lot of resources and the emperors' had to build their monuments-a point which i've tried to convey here, yes it does take ages and in early developement i considered the player could get the iron(or most of it), as in the crusader map 'Holiday in the sun'.
Who knows what the remaining missions hold?more demands from your emperor? more battles? certain doom or everlasting glory?
As for the city well it could be vindobona(vienna) ,carnuntum, noricum or aquileia,i did consider using opitergium(oderzo), but i'll leave that for people to decide which one.
regards

I liked all the three following missions, too.
Masses of Roman heayily armoured troops fight mass invasions of Germanic tribesmen. Good to have cavalry to catch enemy bowmen and single units.
In mission (2), a successive build-up is required (mooh!). Nice details of landscaping.
Mission (3) is perhaps the best one playable. A challenge both in economic reorganization and defense of the invasions.
Tip: delete the stockpile far away or the workers / farmers will deliver their goods there. Needed 11 mills therefore, well, pop was good for taxes.
LD, please script the first invasion (and subsequent ones?) later or it will be ceded, too.
Mission (iv) is a tough siege. A castle too big you have to fortify (market!, rebuild the walls?). A small force you have to lead well and with close aiming of troops (lower game speed). Then, perhaps, you've got a chance to win on normal.
LD, many thanks for these exciting scenarios. |
