AOC: Siege Of Antioch

Author File Description
File Details
Map Size: 400x400 (Large)
Difficulty: Normal
Made with version: 1.2
By the end of the day on June 3, the crusaders controlled most of the city, except for the citadel, which remained in hands of Yaghi-Siyan's son Shams ad-Daulah. John the Oxite was reinstated as patriarch by Adhemar of Le Puy, the papal legate, who wished to keep good relations with the Byzantines, especially as Bohemund was clearly planning to claim the city for himself. However, the city was now short on food, and Kerbogha's army was still on its way. Kerbogha arrived only two days later, on June 5. He tried, and failed, to storm the city on June 7, and by June 9 he had established his own siege around the city.

More crusaders had deserted before Kerbogha arrived, and they joined Stephen of Blois in Tarsus. Stephen had seen Kerbogha's army encamped near Antioch and assumed all hope was lost; the deserters confirmed his fears. On the way back to Constantinople, Stephen and the other deserters met Alexius, who was on his way to assist the crusaders, and did not know they had taken the city and were now under siege themselves. Stephen convinced him that the rest of the crusaders were as good as dead, and Alexius heard from his reconnaissance that there was another Seljuk army nearby in Anatolia. He therefore decided to return to Constantinople rather than risking battle.

Taken from Wikipedia "Siege of Antioch".

Heroesflorian Very-good-looking minimap once more!

I appreciate playing this...

Edit: great scenario, but game crashed as the invasions were to appear... (v 1.1)

Hi, Heroes...

Thanks for download. Could you tell me how you capture the city? I need along time to capture it :) I really carefully when playing it, don't wont lose a lot of troops here...
Lord_of_Hell Impressive minimap. Gonna try this for sure!
Heroesflorian Hi LordBalian,

first, I sent the "reinforcement" at the other side of the map a bit forward, so that all of my archers could shoot. After that, I took shields, crossbowmen and archers ("front side") to clear the fortifications and shoot down the arabian swordsmen. After that, I went around at the western edge of the map, shooting down a few soldiers outside the town and also emptying the nortwestern wall. Then I let my crossbowmen march close to the wall (using "attack here" and stopping them when all of them had reached the wall). Carefully I cleared the northeastern wall and the inner ring of walls around the keep - after losing some of the crossbowmen when I tried to send them into the city through a small hole in the wall and hide them between some hovels near the northern corner along with 8 engineers manning 2 rams for killing one round tower (which did not work because of some arabian swordsmen...). Ehm... After this, I destroyed one lookout tower at the gatehouse near the eastern corner of the city using my knights and made a siege tower use the gap to capture the wall, when (at the same time) I used some of my archers to shoot down the western trebuchets from behind the city wall. Then I sent up all my range units onto the northeastern wall (+gatehouse and remaining lookout towers), clearing another part of the wall (about the half of the southeastern wall) and making a few gaps at the little piece of wall which lead from southeast to northeast here. Now, I sent my units back to the north (the melee units still were in the northwestern corner of the map), made another little hole into the walls near the keep, sent in one siege tower and let him capture the walls around the keep (after removing 1 hovel to give him enough space to do so). The next few steps were: manning the keep and lateron the round towers next to it with all my ranging units (clearing the bunch of lookout towers and some more of the wall), sending the melee units (except the knights who were near my ranging units now) into the city, letting them march onto the southwestern wall, capturing the gates here and killing as many hostile units as possible, both in- and outside the city, sending archers and melee troops closer and closer to the southern corner of the city, finally.

Or, to make it shorter: going around the edge of the map from south to north and then east, then rushing into the city to southwest and finally southeast with the ranged units, and south --> north --> southeast with the melee troops.

Many of my units survived this, after capturing the whole city I rebuilt the gaps in the walls, recruited troops etc (doing nothing so special except selling a few goods), but when the first invasion was to appear, the game crashed^^

Notes: when describing, I think of the minimap in this topic - and sorry if I do not know some details of sieging anymore, though I tried to tell you as clear as I can remember.
