For detailed information about the map, see my thread in the forums, which includes a bunch of screenshots, a short extract of the story and shows the development of the map:
Please read at least the "Author's Notes" at the end of the "Story & Hints" - file, if the story is too long for you.
But reading the full story provides some worthy extra information =D
As always, I would be glad about any comments/reviews.
UPDATE: (07-10-2011) added version with slightly improved landscape (mainly river area).
It's hard to describe the gameplay feeling in this scenario but it's definitely a very entertaining map. Since the beginning I was kept busy by the small skirmishes and battles the player has to win and the tasks seemed close to achieve but tricky to get to.
It was a tricky map and I liked its strategical aspects. A good working economy is not really necessary as the author pointed out but good military tactics are needed. The player is exposed to rushing but it must be avoided or small mistakes can ruin everything and lose, so there's very good balance between time and tactics.
Creativity: 4.5 UPDATED: 5
Well it's not the first map based on this idea but I think there are plenty of things I consider creative. The design itself was something original and the big castle looked really impressive. The story is however beyond outstanding and it's level of creativity very high, but the overal score is just a 4,5.
EDIT: Despite the idea which did not seem too creative in the first place, after looking through the new map version once again I have decided that the creativity mark is really worth rised to 5. Attacking a castle while being attacked by invasions is actually something undone well enough so far and Heroesflorian showed a very good use of the editor tools upon creating an original invasion scenario. Smaller but creative gameplay things also adds to this score, so well done for an outstanding mark on Creativity.
Map Design: 4 UPDATED: 4.5
The terrain looked natural, and the big stronghold was really an impressive work. The river however looked less natural due to the excess of ford. An excellent job but not outstanding.
EDIT: The improvements on the terrain had a big impact for this mark and the author showed a high interest to repair the river edges as well as less important things as the high-tile near the gate or improving the few pinnates for a better look. In addition, this is a well deserved score looking also at the many design details available. However I feel the mark on Map design is still not worth of giving perfect score. A incredible work anyway.
Yet again the story and instructions provided are incredible detailed and very useful for players in need. Outstanding work, unfortunately, the maximum score is a 5:)
