Getting better, but the landscaping still looks below average to me. My advice to you is to TAKE YOUR TIME. People spend hours, or even days, on maps making them look just right.
Another thing that helps is practice. Practice makes perfect right? Before uploading my first map, I had made around 20 or 30 maps before that, each one getting better than the last, since I saw what worked and what didn't.
A final word of advice; download the 20 up from zero map found in the utilities here: http://stronghold.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=4440
In my opinion, it makes maps look alot nicer from the minimap and in game if they aren't flat and green.
Hope I can help you be a better designer!

Looking at the minimap - You can use the land equalizer to make it a little more realistic.

just spend more more more more time on maps, i think best is to start on maps with 300x300, since they have normal size, not too big, and not too small. Also, dont upload every map you make. Theres no need to do that cause now, you have almost on every map same comments. And for last, you can see mapmaking tutorials here
where you can learn some useful edior tricks and how to make terrain realistic terrain that everybody will enjoy.
Hope this help you.

Hmm but maybe you are a bit to criticizing now.
You shouldn't just tell him, what's bad, all the time, but also, what's positive. Otherwise he may get off mapmaking...

Really, I'd say to post your maps.
Maybe not as often, but progress is progress, right?
You won't learn very fast without feedback.
You can't tell someone to just spend a month making something that they don't have much experience with.
Try to be a little more thoughtful when it comes to feedback, you can see he is trying and in time he'll become great, I'm certain.
