Wolfs hole...
This wolf castle has a hole backwards, but its defendet by fire and many crossbowman! Its good that he can not close his castle so that he stop his economy! So its good for economy! More infos are already given at the nice comments of some realy professional AIV castlemakers...
There are now two versions, the old one (wolfi16.aiv) and the new one (wolfi16_fix.aiv)
I realized any of your wanted constructions...
Now it will not be so big at the backwards, and it will have a better economy, also not so much fire will burn the castlebuildings down...
Please comment if there is already something unnoticed or wrong, i will fix all problems whitch you will see!
Play and see! Have fun! |

Other than looking like a pair of nicely shaped breasts, it's a great castle! You seem to have a knack for castle building, and I'd love to see what you can do with the likes of The Lionheart or The Wazir! Keep it up! :-) |

Well, the castle LOOKS nice, but there are quite a bunch of disadvantages.
And before I list them, please notice that there also are good aspects about your castle, and that it isn't that bad. Moreover, this one is quite creative. But in a everyone against everyone game with 40k starting gold for them, they really fast wasted it and just had about 1-5k left after about 10 minutes. That's not so good^^
Firstly, the castle is built quite unilateral: In 3 directions, the castle is quite small, but in the 4th direction, it extends quite far. This is exactly the direction, which is closest to the map-edge, as the keeps will always be placed with their campfire to the edge. This means that - in many maps - the castle won't be built completely, as the map-edge or the terrain will not allow it. (But still, in some maps with much room in all directions, your castle may work fine.)
Moreover, the pitch ditch causes his outer buildings, such as gallows, or the section with church, hats and some other buildings, burn down whenever some of the pitch is lightened. Especially the section with church, hovels etc is quite important, as Wolf can't leave his castle when this section is under fire. So, please delete some of the pitch close to his buildings!
Moreover, you could add one ore two wells here? Maybe you could surround the buildings with some moat on the outer side, making it harder for the enemy to reach them?
Another point is that his barracks are quite far away from his keep. I tested the AIV on the map "The River" (original SHC map by firefly studios) in the following mode: I and 7 of these Wolves, while they started with 40k gold. Just 2 or 3 of them were able to set up their barracks. That's not fine! I would, at least, suggest you to swap the positions of barracks and mercenary post, as the mercenary post is far less important to Wolf than his barracks!
Inside the castle, there are 4 inns, but only 2 breweries - maybe these are not enough? (they may be, it's just a thought)
Moreover, his armoury is quite exposed, I think. Probably I'm too extreme with this point, but you could swap positions of the armoury with the 2 armourers next to the engineers guild? This would also shorten the way of his weapon makers to the armoury, increasing their producing efficiency.
The 3 dog cages inside the pitch are not that good. At least the inner 1 won't work, as the dogs will just come out when there are near hostile units. But this means that the pitch will (probably) already be burning, causing "hot dogs" ;-) I suggest to delete the inner-most dog cage - it's just an unnecessary loss of gold. Instead, maybe place some dog cages somewhere else around the castle to keep approaching enemies busy and your trebuchets safe.
Furthermore, the layout of the pitch ditch will let all the fire ballistae and trebuchets of the Wolf burn, whenever the pitch is lightened - make sure that you leave some gaps in the pitch around the siege engines!
When the moat is filled up, enemies can easily access Wolf's keep using assassins or a siege tower, as the keep is attached to his (only) ring of walls. But of course, the moat (once it is there!) will hold up many enemies, same will do the pitch outside it.
Last but not least, the Wolf just has 1 way of entering/leaving his castle. If the resources are in different directions - and on many maps, the resources are (right opposite the castle entrance) in the middle of the map - he this will slower down his economy quite much. Maybe you could add a gatehouse with drawing bridge between the 2 towers next to his keep?
Cheers,

Its nice to see that you realy testet it out, and you have seen most of weaknesses it had xD. I will make an update on monday (middle-eu timezone).
The fire is the strongest thing and also the weakest thing of that castle...
To the things of the dogcages: yes it needs some more outside the pitch, but maybe the cages in the pitch are not useless! If he had no gold (as you said thats cause of too long wayes for his economy and only one way out of his castle) he will not make anymore pitches, but in most times he will place the dogcages and now see: if he has no gold or enouth things on his stockpile, he can build some buildings without paing any gold xD, thats realy nice (like the walls). he only needs wood in his stockpile then he can build some things of his castle gratis!!!
I think one of these things are the dogcages, but i am not sure...
To the breveries: if you play with bad things (like the wolf do, and i mostly too) only 2 breveries are enouth for up to 5 inns ! I have tested it many times....
I will not fix the problem with not enouth space at his backwards, because if i would do this, the castle need a basic change! I`ve already heard from the idea with some moat around my buildings, and i will also do this.
I alwayes play against new AI`s on the map "Der Grüne Punkt" (I think in english: "green Heaven" or? ) There will work most AI`s with some huge castles...
There are also two weaknesses: its not good against archers.. and also if it will begin burning in the castle, the water is not enough to stop the fire, i will fix that!
Thank you realy much, The castle has a realy new stily with this open wall, and i will see if i can make more of it...
Thank you also for bilingual comment (i do not understand most of the english words xD, only context...) |

No problem =D I'm glad that I could help!
Well, maybe he won't make pitch ditch, when he has no gold and pitch left.
And there may be some bugs that allow to place some buildings without any resources. But the goal of your castle is that the AI actually HAS some gold left, right?
To the breweries: Ah ok, fine then. I just was not sure for myself. But thx for the info!
The space-problem is a matter of the general layout, so I know that it's unfixable. I just wanted to remind you that this castle may not fit everywhere.
Maybe one idea for future "open" AIVs: You could try to make 1 open spot and just make a very long passage of (thin) winding moat in front of it, include some pitch and killing pits, dog cages etc. Then, make a second entrance to the castle and put a gatehouse here. Why? The workers and own units can easily access and leave the castle (by using the gatehouse) without having long ways. But for approaching enemies, the gate will close and the hostile units will have to take the long way. This will keep them away from damaging your castle without making it to easy to enter it.
Good luck with further work!
