A few to add to Bonshaw castle review because Gundwane is a kind of twin sister. Most of what I said on the first one apply to the second. Difference are gundwane is a medium sized map dispite it's claim it's a large one. Gundwane have no ecogoal is an other difference the last one is few calamity (one plague and one fire) have been added early in the game.
I played Gundwane at normal setting in order to make a correct review.
You start with a prebuild large castle, too much supplies of any kind, too much starting troops... too much all. At start, by building two gates and a few walls half of the map could be yours, but really it just add you the advantage to secure your woodcutters. Once more the large size of the castle allow you to build everything you need inside the castle including farm.
Here I didn't commit the mistake to reach important population and troops.
I start the game organize my production and wait a little until 1072. Six years after starting I had about 150 archers and 100 Xbowmen, and I decide to make an experience ... I leave the game and let him run without control. When I came back I was in 1082. I was looking in search of damage caused by ennemy, fire ect ... and making an overall evaluation when the victory message appear. I was under attack but I didnt care about this, the last soldiers of the last invasion was just dead.
During the first year invasions rate is rather high, but because all your building are secure it's not a problem. I didn't build quarries or iron mine just because I was not in need of iron or stone, or to be exact I just buy the few stones I needed.
Editing the map, I could verify that there was only one plague and one fire.
2 instead of 1 in balance is here just because I feeled some difficulties could occurs if played at very hard.
To the author : add the condition "no ennemy on the map" could be a correct way to schedule advisor's speech "good job boy" and Pig complains.

Yes I agree with your critique, I have entered a new map (High Plains Keep) hoping this is harder
