This, my first submitted map, is pretty basic and straightforward. It features a large space in which to start your city, and a single signpost in the southwest corner. What stands between your humble colony and the approaching hordes? The "stairway to heaven"...
This gigantic castle in the middle of a lake features stairs ascending, and then descending to the far side, and is lined with towers. Enemy troops will not attack the bridge as it is the only way to cross the river. Also, on the first level of the castle, a lone swordsman and two pikeman stand gaurd defiantly against your foes. But don't worry, none of the invasions i have triggered have even made it to them ;-)!
This map will provide players with the chance to build up a very good sized city, however it lacks the appeal and beauty that I feel is needed in freebuild maps. The author has noted that most things are basic but I really think more effort needs to be taken to produce a fine freebuild.
The map provides room for a great amount of building so I can easily score this as average.
Since this is a freebuild map, I can not score balance any higher than 3 unless I see something that would really favour the map balance.
Although the map and story are not very well polished, the concept and castle idea added to the creativity of the freebuild. I am not a real fan of prebuilt fortresses in a freebuild but I did like the idea.
The map itself lacks the feel of realism. Very little was done to improve on landscaping. Also, the player is allowed to build hunters huts with no game available on the map. All weapons and military are available. I really think the author needs to refine the map in order to make it enjoyable and realistic.
Nothing really in the story that grabbed my attention so I left it as average.
I think the author is on the way to creating some nice works. I really would like to see greater efforts when it comes to map design, and also events and available goods. By providing everything possible the need for trade is removed. When adding buildings, make sure the resource is on the map.
