Hi everyone,
This is my first map published in Stronghold Heaven, so there can be some mistakes.
BATTLE OF THE EDINGTON
In 878 Alfred the Great, king of the Wessex, attacked the Danish territory of England. In May 878 in Edington, there was a greatest battle of this war. Danish army was placed at the medium size hill. They had reinforcements too. Alfred's situation was awful. He had to destroy Danish army, which was on hill.
You have to destroy Danish army, before their reinforcements will come.
Our army - red
Danish army - orange
Hints:
-use siege equipment
-attack Danish army quickly
-use traps
I'm from Poland, so many of my informations I have found in internet. |

Interesting idea, where the player must eliminate all enemy units in a given period of time (not very long).
Then invasions just keep on coming until the player loses...
Anyways review coming up. |

Battle of the Edington
So I promised I would rate this map, here it is ;)
Playability: 5
The player starts with a small army, but over 200 peasants and a lot of weapons in the armory. I presume this is so that the player can choose when to recruit his/her units. Very nice. Using the pause button will definitely make things a lot easier here.
Main invasion is easily crushed. On easy and normal the enemy should only charge in at the front of the fort. Very hard difficulty is different, the troops dwarf the fort, enclosing every little space within a matter of seconds. On hard I¡¦m not sure, but the two higher settings may not even be possible to beat.
Flinging dead cows at the enemy can also be effective, as many are lightly armoured and therefore prone to the deadly plague. The entire population is also directly related to this: a higher population results in more dairy farmers, which in turn result in more cows to throw. So, player, keep your people happy, well fed ¡¥n tax free or risk losing your cows.
Balance: 5
As far as balance goes, it could be no better. On normal, the player should be able to successfully hold the position at the fort, and counterattack back at the Danish. Casualties will be high. Knights should be used to hack down archers and crossbowmen, while spearmen utilised as bait for enemy swordsmen to occupy themselves with. Players must be sure to attack multiple targets at a time, multitasking, or the invaders will easily rout the army. (Set all units to aggressive.) It¡¦s quite a scene if everything goes well: every man for himself, both sides¡¦ numbers slowly dwindle down until the fiercest are left.
Pitch ditch also proves to be a useful addition at halting the enemy advance. This only turns out to be a one-time use, however. There is not a lot of time for the player to prepare the defenses, before the first invasion arrives. If you can, make an update giving the player a bit more time, some mercy...
Creativity: 3
The Danish fortifications are marvellous. The archers all lined up in their battle formations, the crossbowmen entrenched behind their shields...
Other than that this map is pretty much like many others I¡¦ve seen.
Map Design: 3.5
With the focus being on playability, you could have spent a little more time on the landscape. There are some areas where high ground sticks out irregularly. The swamp is decent but needs updating. Rivers never flow uphill, and that¡¦s the case here, unless the higher ground where the river starts at is the origin, but then the river seems to be coming out of nowhere. Nice ruins, but there¡¦s nothing new in terms of map design. Perhaps you could even use an editor trick or two.
Story/Instructions: 3
You¡¦ve described the situation, given some hints, but what about some more information on the battle and how it actually happened? Fill in the blanks here, and you could earn yourself a 5 with the help of some photos, pictures or illustrations.
*You don¡¦t need 2 map files, both with titles in 2 different languages. This increases the file size and for some people with really slow computers or terrible internet connection, it will take a very long time for them to download. Please update and take one or the other out.* |
