Defender of the Honor

Author File Description
File Details
Map Size: 400x400 (Large)
Difficulty: Normal
Made with version: 1.1

Greetings to the Stronghold Community!

It's been quite a while since I released Besieging for Fairness and Ain Ebel Warfare. Sorry for the long breaks... however, now the third part in the series is available:

Defender of the Honor

After conquering Ain Ebel, you moved on to clear the surrounding area of bandits. You stay in an old ruined fortress, between a large, fortified bandit camp and an Arabian outpost, surrounded by desert and lions. Without many starting goods or rich resources around you to set up your business and deal with your enemies, it won't be an easy fight... Will you accept the challenge? Do your best, or your bones will be polished by the hot desert wind and the sand...

Third Crusade Economic-Siege-Mix.

-all enemy troops killed
-no lions left

Lose conditions:
-time to defeat 23 years
-own Lord killed

Please read at least the "Author's Notes" at the end of the "Story & Hints" - file, if the story is too long for you.
But reading the full story provides some worthy extra information =D

the bandit camp early in the game
the last siege engine of the bandit's first attack on you (beginning of the game)
the starting location of your knights: a little cave
your settlement at the beginning of the game
some brave knights attacking the Arabian outpost...
...after they reached it
this is my informant telling me that I am "poisoned and admired" - why poisoned?!?
my settlement after a [!SPOILER!] fire destroying one of the valuable wheat farms
bandit camp under attack
my well-filled stockpile
some of my troops occupiing the bandit camp
victory - quite late, but overwhelming...

As always, I would be glad about any comments/reviews.

Have fun!

Map Design3.5
Playability: 4
I had some fun playing but in the first moments I wanted to gather all my troops in one place (out of the castle) and seemed like the ruined castle blocked some engineers and archers in the towers. And because the castle is made on different heights, towers and walls not linked correctly, It took some stones to waste. That was the only gameplay issue I encountered, I enjoyed the rest of the map but it didn't have any awesome or outstanding feeling.

Balance: 3.5
The map is easier than it was designed, but that doesn't affect the gameplay too much, as there are more good strategies to win the map. Concerning the difficulty, there is a lose-timer which makes the player hurry a bit, but it was only like 80% filled when the victory screen appeared and I didn't rush at all, actually I lost some minutes thinking on my next moves and I had speed 90 at all time. The traps in the king area were unfortunately visible due to the shadows bug and the lions weren't a big challenge to kill.

Creativity: 4.5
There are many original aspects, the first would be the idea, even the weird desert can be counted as something unique but basic and strong creative point about the map is the story. Having a respectable lenght and a high level of details it's certainly the area where the scenario exceeds when talking about creativity.

Map Design: 3.5
Having a closer look at the terrain, it looks interesting but weird. What should be a desert is made using dots of beach in the ground which is far from a natural look in my opinion. Good is, there are at least a couple of normal sand hills looking good and some structures which gets the player out of the desert look from time to time.

Story/Instructions: 5
As mentioned in the creativity, the story is lenghty, well-written and has many details which is a very good effort for a map. Also there are detailed hints for who is in trouble. Awesome work
