Far from the lakes, far from the rivers, in the land of the wolves lies the Romaraven's hills.
Bloodstained nests of wolves all around the evil kingdom, where the hills have eyes and mouths that howls in the deep of the night.
Protected by the Wolf, here lies the father of your enemy. Under the hills he awaits, surrounding the land with his evil influence while his spawn roams around in search of fresh blood.
It's time to enter the land of the Wolf, but first you have to gather in this place some goods for the king. Send weapons and the materials needed; after that escape quickly from this cursed land, but your only escape route is trought the land of the Wolf. So, this is only the beginning...
OBJECTIVES: (on very hard, suggested gameplay)
Population: 100
armour: 40
swords:40
fruits: 120
mmm...don't remember the word but is black and sticky: 160
religion% : 30
beer % : 75
start: 1066
end: 1082
Special guests: wolves and bears! :) (don't mind this...just for fun!)
Well, i tryed to do a economic map in a barren land, where you are all alone and surrounded by the evil of this place. (No rivers to increase the sense of upsetting) Wolves and sorcery (buildings on fire) are involved, so be careful. The ghost of the Wolf's father will unleash hell on you.
A wise use of market (mostly) and resources is the key. This is not an easy map so it's not suggested for a beginner, but if you like a nice challenge...try it! :)
Oh, you have plenty of time, but gathering 80 weapons (starting from the extraction of iron) takes a lot of time so...start early with that or you could find some troubles later on.

I have only one question:
Why is "very hard" the suggested gameplay?
If that has an usual feeling when playing, the "easy" settings would then be ridiculously easy, resulting an unbalanced map. |

Well, easy is easy, just to test the events of the map.
Normal or difficult are for enjoy the map, without putting too much efforts in the gameplay...when you are a bit tired maybe?
Very hard is for fully enjoy the map and the challenge it gives
That's how my mind works on the concept "balance". So i suggested very hard because the harder it gets, the funnyer the map becomes.
This is just my opinion btw Lord_of_Hell, thanks for sharing yours on the matter! |

Playability/Balance: 1.5
The map looked good, but when I played it, I was disappointed... This map is one of the most unplayable maps I have ever "played". First I have to tell you that you don't even know your own map, not 160 pitches are requiered on hard to win, 120 pitches are needed. After I've faield at Very Hard, I've tried at normal...It was impossible. There are simply no place to build pitch rigs and they're also disabled to build. The market though sells pitches but, buying 60 pitches would cost more than 7000 golds! And making money on this map was impossible, can't raise any taxes, thanks to the too frequent bandit, plague and wolf events. The player also has to build a lot of chapels/temples for the 30% blessed, but how without money? The only possible goals are the 75% drunk, the weapons/armours and the population 50(100 on VH). The blessed, money, pitch and fruit goals are impossible to earn in 16 years. I suggest you to play this map on all leveles(and of course balance them), before uploading.
Creativity: 3.5
A pretty good map, I have to say, if the scripting wasn't that bad and the story would be better a bit, I would give you here a 4. Although the overall construction of the map showed me that you have talent and creativity.
Map Design: 4
Finally! A very very very good map design I have to say. It seems you've spent much more time with this map than your others. The hilly
area looked pretty good, however it felt a bit crowded, but a very nice job. Thumbs up. ;)
Story/Instructions: 3
The map has instructions. The basic idea of the map is explained in a quite good story, it seems you put some effort into it, but it is still too short.
Additional Comments:
A large improvement in map design, however the balance of the map is very bad, I suggest you to ask someone to playtest your maps, if you're lazy or you can't. You can't say that a map is challenging or not, if you don't even play them...[Edited on 02/19/11 @ 11:02 AM]

I'm happy & sorry at the same time. Sorry to contradict Adam the First concerning the Playability and Balance of the map (and a bit as for design). Happy, that have tried it: a comprehensive and very busy eco mission!
It is all there, but with limitations, restrictions and difficulties which make up the full experience of the Stronghold eco. Few troops try to master wild animals of all kinds. Some ways are inconvenient, especially the green parts for farms lie apart in kinda mazes of the landscape. (Which reminded me of two older SH1 eco maps.)
Certainly, it's all about cutting lots of wood at the start, then you can mine all the iron needed for the weapons. Later on, wheat and, above all, stone bring in enough gold to buy the pitch.
Popularity falls and rises in vivid turns. (Bandits arrive only to damage popularity.) One always have to have an eye upon it and the current possibility of taking taxes.
So I enjoyed the time and appreciated the last message along with the win event.
It's all there. The map is really worth being played.
