Kuwana castle

Author File Description
File Details
Map Size: 160x160 (Tiny)
Difficulty: Normal
Made with version: 1

  1. Simpleness - small, short and avoiding complexity

  2. Moderately challenging and enjoyable - not too easy and not
    too difficult.

  3. Reality for castle lovers

Basic Description

You have only 10 archers, 3 engineers, 3 swordmen and you. Seventeen samurais must defend the castle against hundreds of enemies. This map is designed to reproduce Kuwana castle, a Japanese sea castle.

In my country, people who live in town were not hit by army because they change their load when the old lord lost the war. In order to reproduce this fact, in this map, all houses in the town are wrecked house. Thank you for your understanding.

Appearance: "Oogi" castle

In war period in Japan, castle was said to be round because the area of a round castle in the wall of same length is max. However, this castle was significantly enhanced and extended to inland in a stable post-war period. Therefore, the castle was called as "Oogi" castle. If you don't know "Oogi", please see pictures in Google image search:

In history, Kuwana castle fell to Oda Nobunaga who greatly contributed to end the war period. But the Kuwana castle at the time was smaller than that of post-war period which I designed.

Because Kuwana castle was located in an important geoplolitical location (please remember the castle faced to wide river and sea in the game), Honda Tadakatsu, the arm of the first shogun of post-war period, was left management of Kuwana castle.

Honda Tadakatsu extended the castle to south and west direction (lower right and left of the map) and reconstruct the central area. Therefore, very complicated castle has been completed.

When the Meiji Restoration, the castle was involved in the war. At that time, field artillery was already popular, so that the castle fell to new goverment army. A artillery is left as a memorial in the ruin of Kuwana castle.

Adam the First Downloaded and played the map and I have to say it is very good for your first try. I would want to rate it, but considering that this is your first try I will rate it only if you want. ;)

Welcome all creative feedbacks. Because this map is my first one, I may have many mistakes and should fix it. Because I love castle, I'm going to make more castles (I'm going to build Iga-Ueno castle next). Creative feedbacks motive me of this work. Thank you for your consideration.
Adam the First By "creative feedback", don't you mean constructive/positive feedback? ;)

I'm sorry I'm not good at English. I used the phrase creative feedback as the reverse meaning of destructive feedback that I cannot understand what to do to improve my map better. I'd like you to tell me what phrase I should use in this meaning. Is the phrase constructive feedback correct ?
Adam the First Yes.:)

Creative means if you have unusual and good ideas.

Thank you LordOgnjen, I have got a little confidence so that I have decided to make next map. In my opinion, preparing basic concepts before making map is very important for both player and map maker because map maker can concentrate to make the fun part of map.

Therefore, I would like Adam the first to rate my map and tell me how to improve my map. I read Adam's rating report for other map and was surprised by its seriousness of evaluation to show the map maker how to improve his map.

I'm going to have a research trip :-) in the middle of March to Iga-Ueno castle. Before the trip, I'm going to make the first version of map, and then, I'm going to take photos and watch exhibition to rebuild my map.

But first of all, I have to decide basic concepts. Peter 2008 proposed that more economical factor make game more fun, but I postponed this factor to include it in the next map because of the first basic concept of this map, simpleness. I think the economical factor should be one of basic concepts of next map.

Because I like to collaborate and I want to go on map making for a long time, welcome your ideas even small ones. Feedbacks motivate me greatly. Thanks for your help.
Map of the castel,i only found this.

Don't worry about Iga-Ueno castle because I'm going to there this month to research the structure and terrain. I've got the information there is a miniature in museum ( you for your cooperation.

Before writing the review I have to mention that this is the best first map I have ever met.

Playability/Balance: 4
This mission was a really short one, but it was relatively challengeing too. I love maps where the palyer has to control only a few troops and face many enemies. I've lost only once, but I was close to lose in my second try too. The placing of the engineers was the main strategical task in the scenario, but the swordsmen and archers needed a careful control too. As the author said the map is not hard, but also not easy. Well, I think it deserves a 4 as challenge wasn't missing from the map and a good strategy was needed to win.

Creativity: 4
As I've said I like these kind of maps, but the simpleness of the scenario and the awesoem feeling and atmosphere it gives show that the creativity of the author is excellent.

Map Design: 3
For a first one the map design is not bad, though it is still on an avarage level. The design of the castle was simple, but I really liked the moats and the hills emerging over the houses looked quite good.

Story/Instructions: 4
There's no detailed story belonging to the map, however it's rare to see such an awesome looking description page, with lots of historical informations, pictures and use of HTML. There are also instructions included. I wish all beginners did soemthing lke this, so I wouldn't have to give 1-2 scores. Excellent job! :)

Additional Comments:

Finally, I wish to congratulate the designer for such an enternaining first map.
And that's also rare, when a beginner opens a thread for help and asks for playtesters for THE first map. This shows me that the author really wants to improve.

Weed_7777, I see great potential in you. Keep only one thing in mind: Spend more and more time with each of your maps, focus on quality and I'm sure you will be a great designer! ;)
