Playability: 2
The map was playable, since it was winnable on attacking. Though I hardly had fun, as I had nothing to do, except rushing the castle with my melees. On defending it was unwinnable as the enemy were just too many. I tried everything, but my tiny amount of soldiers were simply not enough.
Balance: 1
The balance was the worst part of this scenario. It was totally unblanced. On defending the atatcking forces were that many, I couldn't win with my tiny amount of soldiers and boiler engineers even on easy. And on attacking I could easily win the scenario on very hard without any thinking. Too many things should be improved in this map. Next time, please ask for playtesters to help the balance and playability get better. :)
Creativity: 3
Overall a creative map. I liked that the only path to the castle was the narrow ford, the castle itself and the area, so the usage of the editor showed bits of creativity. The main things which bring down the score here are the story and the scripting (see balance).
Map Design: 3.5
Very interesting design I have to say. A tiny castle with a tiny village surrounded by a large lake/river. The castle design was quite good, and I liked the eye-candies. The terrain, as said above, was interesting, the woods looked quite good and the averall design felt quite natural (except the bumps in the river, they could be demolished by simply using the flat ground tool). It seems you have talent at designing, the only thing you should do in order to improve is spending as much time with your maps as possible. :)
Story/Instructions: 2.5
A short story is present in the map description page, which is a good point, however it has many grammar and spelling mistakes, which is not good, but I don't count that into the rating, since that would be unfair. The 2.5 is only for the story. :)

Playability: 3.5
I haven't explored all of the options yet, but I believe that there are only two real useful options available to the player here, and those are hoard everyone in the keep, or cover the front entrance with a portion of ranged units and hoard everyone else in the keep. When the enemy does break through then deploy the oil. There is something kind of fun about waiting for the perfect moment to use the oil though. Also on Very Hard, I observed some strange behavior where after creating a path to the keep large forces would simply rove around my castle instead of launching an all-out attack.
Balance: 3.5
I won this on Easy and it wasn't very difficult. They breached my walls, but that was part of my plan anyway. On my first attempt at Very Hard I managed to kill a significant portion of their force but still lost. By the end they had perhaps 40 pikemen left, perhaps 20 swordsmen, and some various other units (including the not-very-useful knights), so the map seems appropriately balanced. On the Very Hard setting the ranged units of the enemy had a much greater impact. I believe with another attempt I could beat Very Hard.
Creativity: 3
Creativity for castle recreations is sort of difficult to judge. Nothing really stood at out me as being really incredible, so I give the map a three in this category.
Map Design: 3
There is a little bit of eye-candy castle design here. The river is fairly well down around the edges, although I've never been a real fan of creating rapids by raising large areas of water. It would have been better if the raised areas were more naturally shaped or broken up, instead of just circles in the water. There wasn't much detail work done as far as elevation goes, but it doesn't really seem all that necessary under the cover of the numerous trees. The town is nice but looks slightly thrown together and doesn't coalesce quite as neatly as it might.
Story/Instructions: 5
There is a story. It's appropriate to the map. Congratulations, you get one 5.

Kind of a fun map. |
