Sir Longarms Adventures Pt.4

Author File Description
File Details
Map Size: 200x200 (Small)
Difficulty: Normal
Made with version: 1.2
This is my 4th part of Sir Longarms Adventures.

The final ransom has been set and you and your allies from England must raise the gold to save the King. You have came across one of the Ofe's castle along the coast and it looks like the perfect place to raise the gold....

Continue the story in the zip. file.
This level is a cede-scenario which has you take the Ofe's castle and restore what damage you have done to fend against him.
As well as raising gold you must raise some other resources with little gold, resources or land. There will also be many trigger events to stop you in your tracks.

Tips :
.Dont use the archers at the beginning seige.
.Focus on weopon production to fend against the Ofe's macemen.
.Balace your tax with double rations to keep the population happy.
.There are no markets for trading.

I will gladly accept any comments or reviews.
Good Luck :)

Map Design3.5
Playability: 4
This map had plenty going for it in the playability score. Starting the map off with an assault on a pre-existing castle was kind of fun, even if the archers I started with were rather useless for that part (I didn't use them at all - the crossbowmen would have made quick work of them). The terrain helped increase this score, as it provided a bit of puzzling for helping people reach different areas more quickly. I ended up using wooden towers to allow people to move from the high ground to the low ground. The events kept me occupied and the invasions were fun and made me feel a bit of pressure I might not have otherwise felt. The scenario demands management of a variety of different industries, and that made things more fun as well. In general I always found that I had something to do, even after the economic goals were all I had to attend to.

Balance: 2
This map was rather easy. There was no point where I felt very close to losing. The scripted events provided some challenge, and the presence of macemen in the invasion forces put some pressure on my defenses to be certain, but on my first play-through on very hard I won without much difficulty. On very hard I should lose maybe three or four times before winning, or, if the map is exceptionally good in its playability, more than that. It might help if there were large mobs of bandits after the invasions were done with and if there were larger invasions. Also the initial assault of the castle could have been much more difficult, I only lost about 10 macemen and 20 spearmen on very hard.

Creativity: 3
Most of the creativity score comes from the layout of the terrain. It makes for a good economic puzzle and confounds some of your defensive efforts. There's no good place to point all of your archer fire to, you have to thin it out if you want to take advantage of a wooden tower to expand your farming space, and the cliffs the enemy travels along are convex around your castle, so you can't just plant archers on an outcrop and have them range over a broad area.

Map Design: 3.5
The map design as a whole is well-done. It's not done to the point of near perfection but there are certainly many signs of attention to detail. Probably the biggest things that need work here would be more realistic heights (there is a lot of land that sits at the preset height levels) and perhaps more realistic rocky outcrops (there is a big pile of rocks in the middle of the map that doesn't look too great). The placement of dirt, shrubs, bushes, and trees is well done though, and the waterfall is a nice touch.

Story/Instructions: 5
There is a story, it's appropriate to the map. It's peculiar that this is in an MS Works file, I didn't know anyone still used that...

Additional Comments:
A fun map, although not too challenging, certainly worth a play-through if you're looking for a more tame scenario.
